If you’re in the market for a music column whose sole focus will be reminiscing about the early 90s Seattle grunge era, then Seattle Weekly has good news for you.
The alt-mag has hired Krist Novoselic, the guy from Nirvana who didn’t kill himself or start the Foo Fighters. His first column, about anarchy and “Smells Like Teen Spirit” reminds us that at one point, he must have been one hell of a musician to get this writing gig:
Indeed, Kathleen Hannah wrote, “Kurt Smells Like Teen Spirit” on Kurt’s apartment wall. I recall seeing it and thinking, “Too much cheap red wine!” I don’t know why she wrote it but I know for sure that Kurt Cobain did not have any odor problems. Even though his place was a mess, he took care of his hygiene. This person would soak in the bath night after night only listening to the Beatles.
I don’t do a lot of Nirvana interviews. I could do a documentary interview about the band everyday, forever!
In next week’s column, Novoselic discusses the pre-MySpace days, when music really mattered, and why Kurt Cobain’s turtle collection was a sign of his genius.

Thanks for calling attention to the column but the crticism is extremely unfair. Krist Novoselic has been active and successful in voter reform and in exploring ways to get more people involved in the civic process. I saw him speak at an event and he was smart, articulate and funny. Nirvana was never mentioned, by the way. As a Seattle native, I can tell you that the Weekly wouldn't hire him solely to reminisce about the good ole days - you think we have a shortage here of grunge-era rock gods?
SHUT UP!!Krist is great
Yeah, back off of Krist - he kicks ass.
Sure, you guys, but the article is stupid. Try and prove that the article kicks ass and then tell 'em to shut up. My friend saw him a while ago in a Shakespearean play. Uuummm.. He extremely lucky to have had the chance to be part of such a stupendous band, but I always feel a little pitty for fallen celebrities… even though so many people don't get the chance to prove themselves.
i think its great that he got this chance. he is smart and funny indeed, and his opnions are important for a lot of people in seattle , i thinkhe needs more practice and thats it—
