National Enquirer's David Perel Absolutely Entitled to Gloat in Front of MSM

David Perel, editor-in-chief of the National Enquirer, sung his victory song over at Huffington Post yesterday. And, well, he should: His John Edwards coup at the National Enquirer left the MSM hanging because of their hang-ups in writing up a scandal. (A liberal scandal, at that.)

Who would have thought, then, that it'd be the cynical bloggers rallying behind Perel. But it does make a twisted sort of logic — the Internet, filled with its salacious half-truths and Photoshopped celebrity obsessions, bears more of a resemblance to NE than more reputable publications.

So here's Perel getting smug:

And while the watershed moment of the shifting balance of media power will prove to be one of the most important byproducts of the Edwards affair it is not my favorite moment.

That distinction is centered on an event from just a few days ago, an event with no connection to Edwards. When two Georgia men claimed to have found Bigfoot and held a press conference to display the remains, the event was ignored by the Enquirer. Bill Keller's New York Times ran a straight-faced account, complete with photograph, in the A section.

Ah yes, the Bigfoot incident from last week. Whatever happened with that?

Oh, right.

Well he didn't find the story. This woman's sister sung like a canary. He just had the balls to go with this story after Elizabeth was diagnosed with terminable cancer

He also had the balls to invest big money and A LOT of reporters' time to get Senator Phonypants. All that 'singing' we're hearing now didn't happen until after Perel clearly had the 'goods' on Edwards.

Good on him. He's what I love about this country.

I love that the NE rolls out new dirt every week, Edwards thought that lame apology/insult to the American people was going to get him off the hook, he is going to have to come clean eventually if they keep plastering his face on the cover of mags. Also, it doesn't help him that the baby looks just like him minute the weave.

I agree, Snoop Diggity. How many times did I wish a guy like Perel would follow around some sleazy politician, rather than document what kind of hair day Britney Spears was having? Prayers answered. Thanks.
