Give Gwen Ifill a Chance
Meet the non-white non-male Press

Some folks can actually see beyond Nov. 4, to a time after Americans know who their next president will be. And who their next Meet The Press moderator will be. Right now, Tom Brokaw is filling in for the deceased Tim Russert, but he's only holding things down till the election. Then, a replacement will be named; some suspect multiple moderators might be chosen (unlikely, say we). David Gregory and Chuck Todd are said to both be serious contenders. They are both white men, just like Russert and Brokaw! Which has led some — including those capable of registering domain names — to urge NBC to consider non-white, non-male candidates. We hear there's some lady named Gwen Ifill?

DontLetNBCDisWomen.org is begging Jeff Zucker and Steve Capus to all but name Ifill the new MTP host.

"Chuck Todd and David Gregory are in the running. Both men are fine journalists, but they do not represent the racial or gender diversity that their viewers deserve. It is important for viewers to be exposed to a broad range of perspectives and not exclusively those of Caucasian males." (Emphasis, for once, not ours.) They continue: "Meet the Press is the number one rated Sunday morning public affairs program. The program influences the outcome of elections, advances public policy and enhances the prestige of invited guests. It is no longer acceptable to lock women and people of color out of the corridors of power."

And what's the real thesis behind arguing NBC needs to give women a chance? Oh, just NBC News' very fine reputation it earned during the Democratic primary of being a hotbed of sexism. (And that all the morning shows are run by white guys.)

Oh great, so America is ready to put a janitor in the White House and a maid on Meet the Press - what a fucking disgrace!

Since the passing of Tim Russert, I have been mentally trying to come up with suitable replacements and Chuck Todd and Gwen Ifill have ALWAYS been at the top of my list.
