Meet With Ted Koppel
Changing of the guard

Everyone's favorite old anchor (besides Dan Rather, and uh, Andy Rooney?) Ted Koppel, just dipped out of his contract with The Discovery Channel for some unknown reason.

"There has been significant change in senior management at Discovery,” Koppel said. “Producing our kind of news-related programs is an expensive proposition. It has long been clear that neither of us is interested in an extension of the current contract. Discovery and I worked on terminating the contract a few months early under terms that both sides found acceptable. We leave with gratitude for the professional opportunities we've been given and for the generosity with which we've been treated."

Speculation is, Koppel is switch-hitting for NBC and will soon be announced as the new anchor for Meet the Press, in Tim Russert's place. Of course, with the line-up Phil Griffin's got going on over there, is it any wonder that the network is looking for some not-so-fresh blood?

frankly, Koppel would be great at the permanent host for Meet The Press. During Koppel's tenure on Nightline, he was one hell of an interviewer and cross-examiner.

Agreed. Koppel would bring me back. I can't think of anyone NBC has that I would want to watch on MTP. But, of course, given Koppel's age, NBC would have to commence an immediate search for his successor. And bring along their lunch.
