'Major' CBS Firings Coming Today

While CBS was having itself a gay old time this week, ruffling up some cheer at its annual holiday party, its HR department was toiling through the night … figuring out who's getting fired. We hear "major cutbacks" are coming today. After all, somebody's got to pay for Dan Rather's perpetual happiness. Do you have more details?

Update: We're told CBS News will see about 10 percent of its workforce slashed. Other divisions are firing people too. "There will be a formal announcement very soon," says a source. CBSNews.com and CNet will merge into CBS Interactive, with CNet's workforce slashed up to 20 percent and CBSNews.com losing about 20 employees, or 30 percent of its staff. A statement released late last night spoke of "integration." There will be cuts across ZDNet, CBS.com, TV.com and Last.fm.
