Caroline Kennedy Following in Fine American Tradition of Political Incest
The Family Jewels

Oh, Caroline Kennedy, running for office because of despite her family's history in the political arena, history that she does not hold since she has spent most of her career working on philanthropic charities and not legislature. "So what in god's name makes Caroline think she can run for Hillary's Senate seat," some people are asking?

Because American politics in the last century have been an incestuous clusterfuck of familiarity, Howard Kurtz answers. Besides the Clintons and the Bush's, of course:

Then there's Chris Dodd (son of Tom), Evan Bayh (son of Birch), Mitt Romney (son of George), Jeb Bush (son of George), Mary Bono (widow of Sonny), Lincoln Chafee (son of John), Nancy Pelosi (daughter of former congressman Thomas D'Alesandro Jr.), Jesse Jackson Jr. (son of Jesse), Andrew Cuomo (son of Mario), Richard Daley (son of Richard), Illinois Attorney General Lisa Madigan (daughter of Illinois House speaker Michael Madigan), to name but a few. And let's not forget Caroline's Uncle Ted, who won a Senate seat in 1962 with his brother in the White House, and would have been laughed off the field if he had a different last name.

Whoops, it looks like we should be grateful that Barack Obama even made it into office on those Kennedy ties alone, without actually having to prick his finger and become blood brothers with Ted.

Who's to say she wouldn't be an excellent leader? (Hey, clearly much better than Blago!) I can't help but suspect some serious sexism remembering how much the press fawned over JFK Jr … if he had lived long enough to develop a conscience/desire for leadership, the reaction would have been SIGNIFICANTLY different. Leave Caroline Kennedy alone!

I agree. With the feeding frenzy that her personal "opt out" created, can you blame her? She's too private a person to get into the rat race, I'm glad for her that she got out before it was too late. The vultures were circling. And her uncle Ted is the last close parent figure in her life.
