Serena van der Woodsen's mother, Lily, has a lot more to feel weird about than the death of her husband on Gossip Girl. Kelly Rutherford, the woman who plays Lily, admits that she is still breastfeeding her 2-year old son Hermes because it keeps her in shape.
"It's an amazing bond with your child," she said, even pointing out that the experience mostly benefits her body - not her kid: "I was thinner after my pregnancy than before, and I think a lot of it was the nursing."
Two years old? Besides the odd logistics of that (can you still produce milk after a couple months?), once your kid is old enough to walk and talk, you should probably stop letting him snack on your breasts (teeth!). We'll give Kelly the benefit of the doubt, but if she's still doing this when Hermes is her fictional son Eric's age, we are calling social services.

No one-anywhere on the planet–should be breastfeeding a 2-year-old child, for any reason. Again: NO ONE SHOULD BE BREASTFEEDING A 2-YEAR-OLD CHILD. It is unhealthy, it is psychologically wrong, it is mentally, physically and psychologically unstable. Someone run an intervention, please. Again, for everyone: No one, anywhere, should be breastfeeding a 2-year-old child.
You are wrong, you are wrong, you are wrong. It is healthy, psychologically, emotionally, physically. Do your freaking resarch before you spew. Grow up; nursing is not sex.

Somehow I don't think she'll be La Leche's next spokesmom…
That child is going to be sorely disappointed when he starts pre-school.
@you are wrong…
was that link supposed to show that the NIH suggests breast feeding two-year-olds?
because the only age recommendation that I see is "up to 12 months".
so, if your link was supposed to prove TheFrontPage wrong about breastfeeding two-year-olds, it didn't.
While I realize that the timing of stopping is up to each woman for herself, some people DO find breastfeeding toddlers a little creepy.
I tend to get a little freaked out when I find out someone in the US is still nursing at that age. That said, in other parts of the world, people nurse their kids much longer than the American under-1-year rule (when you have access to very little food, as well as have problems with clean and safe drinking water, nursing is a great way to keep your child healthy and growing).
I'm a bit surprised about an actress doing it, though….
The World Health Organization recommends breastfeeding until 24 months of age. The APA recommends at least one year (longer is fine). Kids will wean themselves after two or three years. It God-given food, so snack away, kiddo!
Interesting that breasts are used for selling everything from cars to toothpastes but people are freaked out when they're used for their God given purpose.
Worldwide, the MEDIAN age of weaning is 4.2. The World Health Organization and the Canadian Health Minister recommends TWO years of breastfeeding. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends one year and as long as mutually desired after that.
Some people need to grow up. Seriously.
