Matthews to Stay at MSNBC, If Not Under the Best Conditions

Guess all that red herring about taking on the Senate was a lot of baloney from Chris Matthews part: The MSNBC host has officially re-upped his contract, a decision that was revealed by his brother Jim earlier this week and confirmed yesterday by MSNBC.

But Matthews is taking quite a few losses to stay under Phil Griffin's media umbrella.

The host is being asked to take a substantial pay cut from the $5 million a year he earned under his previous contract, which expires in June. But a person familiar with the talks said Matthews will still earn at least $2 million annually.

Now his short-term future, at least, is set: Matthews and Keith Olbermann will co-anchor MSNBC's coverage of the Obama inauguration.

What do you think is more humiliating for Matthews: Losing $3 million a year or being stuck with best frenemy Keith Olbermann during this historic inauguration?
