Last night at a round table discussion at the 92nd St Y, Arianna Huffington, Erica Jong, and Nora Ephron all made compelling cases for why grandparents need to be taken better care of in America. Look at Barack Obama, he was raised by his grandma! And now Michelle's mom is moving into the White House! How could this new system of free childcare fail?

Considering that the entire audience was composed overeager UES grandparents off their meds (as evidenced by the Q&A session that involved not so many questions as it did shouting rhetoric about Andrew Jackson, banks, and 9/11 into the microphone), the ladies knew their crowd. Especially Ephron, who couldn't stop gushing about Barack Obama's white, white teeth.

Stuff like this goes on in New York City, because NYC embraces self serving egotistical people so their 15 minutes of actual fame turns into 15 years of heartburn for everyone else. LA too. If these women lived in Boston, they would be talking to themselves in Dunkin' Donuts in Framingham. No one would care what they have to say, which is a big fat nothing anyway.
Maybe the Temple Beth El Sisterhood would invite them in for this discussion, come to think of it. :)
