It's not even been two years since the massacre at Virginia Tech left 32 dead, and now another student has gone and fatally stabbed someone in the cafeteria? What is it they put in the water over there, pure testosterone?
The woman, who was also a graduate student but was not identified, was stabbed to death at a cafe in the Graduate Life Center. Police believe she knew the man accused of attacking her, 25-year-old Haiyang Zhu, the school said in a news release. He was charged with first-degree murder and was being held without bond.
Seriously, how do you continue going to school after this? Meanwhile, The Boston Herald had an interesting take on it with their headline: "In wake of tragedy, Virginia Tech garners a huge win."

so glad you could find the humor. Go f yourself
You're a pinhead. If you're going to attempt such a weak-ass parallel between the mass shootings and a single stabbing at a college campus, you might be better off talking about big city Chicago crime instead. What a moron.
Wow dude, how is any university suppose to stop a student from stabbing someone? This is nothing like that massacre, as murders happen every day. It's NOT everyday in this country that someone kills 32 people. Maturity would do you some good, especially discussing a sensitive topic like this. Tech has 25+ thousand people go here, I'll let you figure out why the odds of something like that happening here is higher than at, say, Wake Forest. Hell, why don't you consider how long VT has been around, eventually bad stuff happens. It's like winning two scratch offs in one day, it can happen but that doesn't mean you're lucky, because in the long run you lose way more than you win.
Try using facts to write next time.
What? So you're comparing "winning" scratch off games to murders? But in the long run you lose way more than you win? So in that case in the long run, more people end up alive than dead? I guess that's a fact….
Umm…all of you giving this guy trouble have serious issues if you are not outraged by yet another killing at this Univerity. Some of you actually trying to say S75T happens. Wow..you morons. Not one person was murdered at my school in the four years i spent there (Go Bears!) and none since I graduated in 1994 that I am aware of. So yes VaTech has a serious porblem and those of you who dont think so can go ahead and send your kids to school there!
Dan, nobody is discounting what happened there. Everyone agrees that it is a tragedy. What they and myself are saying is that the person who wrote the above "article" (and I use that term only in the purest sense of the word, as no self respecting news journalist would write such claptrap unless they worked for a tabloid) showed an intense lack of good taste and decorum, made a pathetic stab at the university itself and insinuated that the university is somehow responsible for the tragedy.
I hope that VTech finds this pathetic excuse for a news article and goes after the author for libel.
Dan, I attended Tech for four years, graduating in '05, and nobody was murdered in that period. Nor am I aware of any previous murders involving students before the April 16 shootings, though I'm sure they happened. Be grateful that nobody has been murdered in such a long time at your school (that you heard about, anyway), but never assume that it won't happen in the future. Furthermore, this incident appears to be a domestic dispute involving two people who knew each other, not a random attack. I am encouraging both of my younger cousins to attend Tech and have no more concern for their safety there than I would at any other school, but it's impossible to prevent every tragedy.
I am currently a student at Virginia Tech. I can tell you personally that I have no problem going to class everyday. Being a Hokie means you are a part of a family; something bigger than yourself. It's something that you can't understand unless you're a part of it. Please do not make jokes out of our tragedies. You should be honoring our students' support of one another rather than asking if there is testosterone in our water. There is nothing wrong with Virginia Tech. You can ask anyone who goes here. We are fortunate to go to a wonderful school and it's unfortunate that you forget that.
I hope that next time tragedy strikes, if you feel the need to write something, you will just send your thoughts and prayers rather than use sarcasm to find light in the situation.
"but it's impossible to prevent every tragedy."
There were seven witnesses that watched this monster cut this girl's head off, and none of them did anything to try to stop it as far as I know. If Tech students were allowed to defend themselves I think this tragedy could have been prevented. You wouldn't even need to allow students to be able to carry guns on campus, a tazer would have done the trick.
I am currently a student at Virginia Tech.
I thought the article was kinda funny.
But yeah, we go to school just fine. No concerns for safety or anything like that. Hell, I feel -much- safer here than I do in most cities.
Also, it wasn't "the cafeteria," it was a cafe. Au-Bon-Pain. We have the best food in the nation, and calling our awesome food services "the cafeteria" -is- an insult.
This wasn't just a stabbing it was a fu**ing decapitation. Wtf is up with Virginia Tech indeed. Both perpetrators were Asian as well, don't know what the significance of that pattern is… just curious
There is nothing "up" with VT. You're talking about 2 clearly demented individuals. Please don't judge our school based solely on the actions of 2 people.
I also went to VT. And there's been a lot of bad shit happening there recently–an escaped inmate killing police officers, April 16, and now this, but there's nothing in the water. I'm tearing up just remembering the horrible feeling I had April 16, and still have today, but Tech is an amazing community. With a huge population of students, shit happens. It's like saying WTF, DC?? Ok, so we're not talking the same number of people, but it's not like some small ass private school either. Violence is happening around the world, and Blacksburg was bound to be affected eventually.
I read that they were at a fast food chain Au-Bon-Pain…
Our country is full of wussies who love to record violence on their cell phone cameras, but do nothing to help victims.
Last year, I read a story of a man who stomped his 2 year old to death while people were watching….
Where are the REAL MEN? The only thing men in this country know how to do is watch sports and scratch their butts. Put them against danger and they become a bunch of girls.
IN THIS POST: People get angry about something written on the internet.
stop using my handle, interloper!
@Peter:
So WTF if they were asian J-money. They were both from different countries within Asia. This was just 2 sick individuals, regardless of their ethnicity. You dont hear Asian people saying that caucasian people are more prone to becoming unibombers or columbine copycats? If you wanna compare serious crimes and crime rate statistics, the US is on a completely different (higher) level than Japan or Korea and most of Asia. So what does it mean, its safer here in the US than there. No of course not, but dont try push this square peg in a round hole. This world is full of crazies so dont try and stereotype and say because someone is Asian they are more prone to massacre or decapitate their classmates. That is a pretty racist remark wether its intentional or not you just sound really ignorant!
