Couric Versus Leno: When Prime Time Dies

Ah, now we have an inkling as to why CBS is "trying out" Katie Couric for a later slot than the CBS Evening News: The station realized that despite her ratings bump post-Palin, most viewers would rather watch Katie as a commentator than as a serious journalist.

Former Salon editor Bill Wyman has a personal track record against Couric, dubbing her "The News Anchor Nobody Watches," but his theory that the former American sweetheart might end up competing with Leno for a 10 p.m. slot makes a certain amount of sense to us: One moving from early morning to evening, the other from late night to prime time, and they meet in the middle!
