Celebrity Enemy Number One: The Internet

Ours is an unfair world. Although a jaw-dropping technological advancement is revealed every week anymore, being rich and famous still gets no easier. In fact, technology ruins celebrity. Gwyneth Paltrow tells the March issue of Elle UK that the she hates the Internet for hurting her feelings: "Fuck the haters! I saw this blog of people writing horrible things about me and, for a second, your ego is so wounded." What a novel sentiment from a famous person. Or, y'know, not at all.

John McCain: "I hate the bloggers."

Mario Batali (on the blog Eater): "Many of the anonymous authors who vent on blogs rant their snarky vituperatives from behind the smoky curtain of the web. This allows them a peculiar and nasty vocabulary that seems to be taken as truth by virtue of the fact that it has been printed somewhere."

Harrison Ford: "The worst thing about the Internet is that anything and everything is up for grabs. … Any kind of rubbish goes on the internet and it can have a fucking life of its own."

Tina Fey: "If you ever start to feel too good about yourself, they have this thing called the Internet! You can find a lot of people there who don’t like you!"

George Clooney: "There’s like, a thousand people sitting in dark rooms trashing you. Brutal! You’re like, 'Wow, dude.' You see way too many angry people [on the internet]. I remember getting off the machine and thinking, 'Never, ever again.'"

Nicole Scherzinger: "I don't know how to work an Internet. I don't know how to get on my MySpace. I don't really read blogs. The couple that I do, they break my heart, so I don't like them."

Jared Leto: "…most of the time the bloggers themselves are just trying to get famous so they can make some money and sell advertising dollars and duping these poor people who are on the Internet all day long."

Jared Leto (again): "I think that blogging should die a sudden death. It's just ridiculous. It's like a playground for four-year-olds."

Anna Wintour: From Page Six: "Anna hates the word 'blog' so much, she refuses to call anything on her site a blog and has charged her staff with coming up with a new word that isn't as garish-sounding."

Fergie: "I just think, 'Wow, I’ve worked so hard for this, but what are you doing other than sitting there behind your computers and talking shit about people?' … don’t diss people if you’re not getting off your ass and doing something about your own life."

Chris Matthews: To a guest citing a blog source: "Let's stick to journalism. I don't do that here. If it's just blogging let's drop it."

Victoria Beckham: "I think these people are pretty spineless, the way they hide behind pseudo-names. They don’t really know what’s going on in anybody’s lives. They’re just sad people that sit behind their computers."

These celebrities are so full of themselves, its good people have a place to tell "them" exactly how riduculus some of them are. It's a good thing. Keep these "hot shot" down to earth and reality based.
