To make his humiliation complete, Michael Phelps has to apologize to China for smoking weed. Why does he have to do this? It's not like he was caught taking steroids during the games, so why should China care? "Oh, you mean if he hadn't been stoned all during the Olympics he might have swam twice as fast? Great." It's because he has a huge endorsement advertising for some Japanese company in China. Also, they aren't as liberal with drugs over there. So the Japanese company probably asked him to do it to salvage what they had already spent on advertising.

He probably apologized so that the loon in CA would not sue him like she is doing to Miley Cyrus for pulling her eyes into a slant. What a sad country we are evolving into when a swimmer (and still a private citizen) gets into alot of trouble for toking on a bong WHILE a larger than life baseball star will likely be forgiven even though he did steroids for years and LIED about it on television. Phelps has apologized and has lost a major endorsement so I think he has learned his lesson finally.
