People have been trying for years to tell moose-fed snow loon Sarah Palin that her abstinence-only sex ed. policy is total bullshit. Maybe now that her 18-year-old new mother of a daughter is saying as much, she'll finally listen.
Here, have a look at some of the more insane things Sarah Palin has said about sex and pregnancy. And then watch Bristol Palin saying last night on Fox News that teaching America's children abstinence "is not realistic at all."
Sarah Palin on sex and children:
• (When asked whether she would be pro-life or pro-choice if her 14-year-old daughter were raped and impregnated) "I would choose life."
• "I am pro-life. With the exception of a doctor’s determination that the mother’s life would end if the pregnancy continued. I believe that no matter what mistakes we make as a society, we cannot condone ending an innocent’s life."
• "(When asked what her top three priorities would be, in relationship to families, if elected governor of Alaska) "1) Creating an atmosphere where parents feel welcome to choose the venues of education for their children [i.e. abstinence-only vs. standard sex ed.]; 2) Preserving the definition of 'marriage' as defined in our constitution, and 3) Cracking down on the things that harm family life: gangs, drug use, and infringement of our liberties including attacks on our 2nd Amendment rights."
• "I’ll do all I can to see every baby is created with a future and potential. The legislature should do all it can to protect human life."
Hoo boy, what a crazy.
Now, Bristol Palin on sex and children:
Later in the interview, Bristol suggests that her story should serve as a warning for any teens interested in sex and children, saying she's evidence that it's best to hold off: "They should just wait like 10 years."
Do our ears deceive us, or is a Palin actually saying that having a child isn't necessarily the greatest blessing in the world? Is young Bristol perhaps even hinting at regret over having the baby at all? Yikes! If she's this remorseful now, just wait until the kid's old enough to ask why daddy, currently an unemployed high school dropout, doesn't come home for hours after his shift at the cannery is over.

I would never vote for Sarah Palin to be in a Executive Branch position and I absolutely did NOT vote for McCain, one of the very main reason's being Palin, but,… having said that, there is nothing in what she said, that you listed above that I do NOT agree with. And I agree with what her daughter said. It was a very responsible statement coming from someone who has gravitas on the situation. Remember, there is a HUGE difference between GETTING preganant and BEING pregnant and HAVING an abortion. THAT is the definition of PRO-choice.
If Sarah Palin is asked, IN HER OPINION, would she ever get an abortion and she says "NO" that is NOT the same thing as her saying she would dictate how others act.
@HMS - She said that she would want the legislature to do all it can to prevent abortions. That is, in fact, "her saying she would dictate how others act."
Acknowledging that she would aim to force her (theoretical) underage daughter to bear the child of her rapist would also, in fact, be "her saying she would dictate how others act."
Agree with her or don't, but don't pretend she doesn't want to impose her views on everybody else.
Eva,
First of all, you are right about the first part. I misread what was quoted. I thought she said, she would protect any child WHO was born (from all the societal ills listed above) etc… sorry.
Secondly, she said "She would chose Life", but I didn't see anywhere, above, her say, "I would INSIST or FORCE" my daughter to chose life.
C'mon- fair game as far as Sarah's concerned…she IS an idiot and deserves derision, but chill out on criticizing/speculating on Bristol's kid's life. Even if the dad ends up working at a cannery, he'd at least be working. That's a damn sight better than a lot of kids' parents in this country.
It's nice to see all you morons that voted for B.O.
I hope your all out of work along with the idiot that runs this..whatever it is, so called news.
Ha ha, get ready for the big depression!!
I'm going to enjoy the liberals in the street begging!!!!
wishing for ill on others, eh?
isn't that just like a bitter republican voter…
why not wish for the best but prepare for the worst?
I didn't vote for DUHbya either time but, for the love of my country, didn't wish ill on him. I see you can't do the same.
to HMS…yes, Palin said, when asked about her daughter, that SHE would choose life.
you can take that two ways. either she WOULD, in fact, force her daughter to "choose life" or it's a nice way for her to avoid answering the question.
When I was 18 (which was less than 10 years ago) I could speak in complete sentences. The sentences had words too, other than "like".
I'm surprised that the Palin camp let this interview take place, but appalled that anyone cares to listen.
uh… who cares what a 18 year old girl says?
Just got news Obama is an IDIOT. WE ALL KNOW WHY THE PORKULUS PACAKGE WAS SIGNED TODAY YOU KNOW THE ONE WITH "NO eAR MARKS"
IS THIS CHANGE YOU CAN BELIEVE IN? IF OBAMA CAUSES AN STAGFLATION 4 YEARS FROM NOW HIS ASS WON'T BE IN THE WHITE HOUSE.
You poor Obama supporters, you don't even know what you voted for. When you don't have a job, you can't buy a car, when your living on food stamps and standing in a government line to get your rations, you will finally figure out what you have done. You voted for a Marxist, who see's the opportunity to go straight to communism, cause your so willing. YOU will spend the rest of your life wanting and fighting to get that vote back. Welcome to Cuba, remember, YOU GAVE IT AWAY.
To all you Anti-Obama people, the Boys Who Cry Wolf,
You still cultivate the Climate of Fear. It's not going to work any longer.
The more you try to cause Hysteria, the more people move towards Obama's plan.
You have no better ideas.
We blew $750Billion on your leader, and what did it get us? Nothing.
I'll take my chances on the next $800Billion and I'll bet finally this country will get back on track.
Ok…it's official. All of you people are idiots. Keep fighting about dem. vs. repub. shit and miss the bigger picture…THAT THEY'RE ALL THE FUCKING SAME!!!!!
Oy…change will never fucking come with such brainwashed folks who can be swept into a frenzy by a catch phrase running a muck…fucking shit up with their empty hope.
HMS,
Careful your intelligence is showing…Obama VOTED for the 1st 750 Billion in Sept 08 and didn't read the bill then or now. The 1 TRILLION $ BILL (That's right with interest moron)was written by Pelosi and Reid and they paid everyone back who voted this clown in. 5 BILLION for ACORN? And by the way it was Obama who fanned the flames of PANIC to get this bill passed only to GO AWAY for a 3 day weekend! Sorry but his job is 24/7…He can't just take 3 days off when our economy is collapsing or can he? I guess he can…
a government line to get my rations? still using that line, huh?
didn't work before the election to scare people into voting for Gramps and Redneck Barbie…and it isn't going to work now.
sorry, chicken little, the sky is not falling, we're not heading toward communism (OR socialism) and you can stop your alarmist ways.
So, let me get this straight… Sarah Palin's daughter is not allowed to disagree with her mother? She can't have her own ideas or opinions?
Wow. Okay.
@Rhonda: "You voted for a Marxist"
HAHAHAHA, do you even have ANY idea what Marxism is? Either a) you do, and yet you still think Obama is a Marxist, which makes you an idiot… OR b) you don't know what a Marxist is and you're just throwing the word around to sound cool, which also makes you an idiot.
If you threw out an intelligent argument, people might listen to you. But instead you sound moronic. Hope that works out for ya.
And I"m glad to see that the younger Palin generation has a little sense about them. It's fine and dandy to teach abstinence only, except that teenagers WILL have sex no matter what. So why not teach them how to prevent getting pregnant before they even have a high school diploma?
@Scott:
you sir are an asshole.
Lauren,
We will see who the idiot is very soon. Good Luck.
UNbelieveable that all the Republicans, who never said "no" to any of Bush's demands and even declared that anyone who disagreed with Bush's policies were TERRORISTS for not supporting the Prez on all matters, are so not willing to offer that same support to Obama. Just STFU. Nobody's listening to you guys anymore, thank God. Thanks to Bush/Cheney, we're in a freakin' recession/depression that will last for god knows how many generations, our infrastructure is beat to hell, nobody has jobs, money or homes in a lot of cases, yet you insist Obama is to blame?? You are truly psycho and the country is relieved to be rid of your asses, as proven by voters. I'm sure you think voters are too stupid to choose a president, unless they vote Republican all the way, but guess what morons? Nobody is listening to you. Because you've proven you're mean, petty, self absorbed, hypocrits who deserve nothing but the back of the hand - and that's what you're getting. Suck it.
"Do our ears deceive us, or is a Palin actually saying that having a child isn't necessarily the greatest blessing in the world? Is young Bristol perhaps even hinting at regret over not having an abortion? Yikes!"
So because a teenage mom admits that having a child is hard, that means she must have wished she had an abortion? Unless she encourages other teenage girls to have children, than she must regret having her own child?
Bristol appears to be stating that she knows she made a mistake. She knows that the course of her life has changed forever. She clearly states that she loves her son, but she also acknowledges that having a child at 18 is difficult, and wouldn't recommend that teenagers try to have kids. Why is that wrong?
Being pro-life doesn't mean that you believe "having a child is the greatest blessing in the world." Being pro-life means that you value human life, and want to protect life, especially when that human can't fight for themselves.
People who are pro-choice do not always support an actual CHOICE. They support abortion. They do not always present all options to pregnant women - like adoption, or empowering women to realize that they are strong enough to have and raise their child on their own. Pro-choicers usually just push for abortions. I have counseled women who have had abortions, and they have all stated that the "pro-choice" clinics they went to NEVER offered any other option except the abortion. No counseling, no assistance, no adoption information. Only abortions were available.
I'm not saying that every pro-choice person is like this, but that is how abortion clinics are run.
Do you know of any parent that wouldn't swear that "abstinence" isn't possible? Come on.
I am still trying to figure out how STUDYING THE HABITATS OF "WETLAND MOUSE" IS ACTUALLY STIMULATING THE ECONOMY? YET IT IS IN THE "STIMULUS PACKAGE".
DID ANYONE NOTICE THAT THE "PORKULUS PACKAGE" OBAMA SIGNED TODAY OR THE "GENERATIONAL THEFT ACT 2009" WAS OVER 1,000 PAGES AND EVERYONE WHO VOTED FOR IT DIDN'T READ THE "PORKULUS BILL"?
Why is anyone still listening to these worthless hillbillies?
Rebekah: abortion clinics are what they are. It's not the place for soul searching. If you made the decision to have an abortion, the clinic assumes you've already made the decision to be there to actually have an abortion. They don't pass judgment, they just do what they're there for. All the soul searching and whathaveyou is for the woman to do on her own - through prayer or exploring other options. Don't go to an abortion clinic looking for someone to hold your little hand. Abortion clinics will not perform an abortion if the woman exhibits uncertainty or unwillingness. There is plenty of information out there concerning other options and people pretty well know they may need to talk to a family planning expert if there are doubts. Anyone who expects the abortion clinic to do their soul searching for them is just looking to avoid taking responsibility for their decision to have an abortion. It's a tough thing to do and the decision has to come from the woman and no one else.
Mark, the rest of the country is still trying to figure out where those damn WMDs are. You know, the ones that justified invading Iraq, who had NOTHING to do with 9/11. Suck it.
Bam-a-lam,
I agree that abortion clinics are what they are. In the same way that I understand that the corruption on WallSt is what is.
I have just always found it ironic that people who support abortion call themselves "Pro-choice", but don't actually offer any choice.
Yes, you are right. A woman who is having sex and gets pregnant should explore her own options and make her own decisions. But sometimes a woman is alone, scared and confused, and might not have the resources or know-how to fully explore her options. Her friend/boyfriend might mention an abortion, so she goes to the clinic to check it out. The pro-choice workers don't offer her a choice, they just perform the abortion. I have seen it happen, and heard this same story many times.
I have volunteered at a women's center that offers free pregnancy tests, ultrasounds, parenting classes, and support/counseling for women who have been affected by abortion or adoption. When a young woman comes in and discovers she is pregnant, we sit down and discuss her options with her. We do not perform abortions, but we will discuss it if that's what the woman is considering. We will also discuss adoption, and raising the baby herself. We offer assistance with baby supplies and cribs. We offer a woman CHOICES. Choices that they won't find at a pro-choice clinic.
Oh Rhonda. I would love to go Russian commie. It would be so sweet to see you hanging from a noose. Oh, and before you make your stupid little red neck remarks about marxism and socialsim, please look the words up first.
I just love it when you little sheep bleat your little Republican dogma. You sound like such little pitiful fools. Little pigs that can't make a move without their masters.
Most of you stupid little redneck republicans are the ones out of work. It's common knowledge that liberals have more education.
Rebekah, you stupid little twit. "Pro choice" is called "pro choice". If it was "pro abortion" it would be "pro abortion". Please think before you use those inbred little sausage fingers to type idiotic comments. I know exactly how your place "counsels". Stop telling lies.
Mark, this site is for kool-aid drinkers. They didn't even get it when barry signed his CRAP SANDWICH, he stole their future. Dow dropped 300 points. All these people can say is ha, ha republicans we won! They think its a football game.
WTF are you talking about Rhonda. It dropped over 600 in one day when W was in office. Oh. I love the sheep. They always talk about Kool aid. One of them made the comment, and now they all do. Oh, how original.
I hate to leave a comment that is totally unrelated to the article, but someone mentioned about the Anti-Obama camp "still cultivate[s] the Climate of Fear. It's not going to work any longer." I won't disagree with this, but we also need to recognize that this is politics and both parties work the fear factor in their favor. The push to pass the economic stimulus plan is the most recent and obvious use of this from the Obama camp. Wasn't it Obama who was predicting doom and catastrophe, even going so far as to compare the current economic crisis to the Great Depression? Things are bad 7.6% unemployment last time I looked, a predicted 2% GDP decline for 2009 and auto production declining about 25% last year. But this in no way compares to 1932: 25.2% peak in unemployment, the GDP decrease of 13%, and the auto industry shriveling by 90%. There is just no comparison and that he has done so is absolute fear mongering in order to pass this bill through. I'm not saying Republicans don't do it, but at least admit that Pres. Obama does the same.
Sorry, that was much longer than I anticipated!
Aunt Ida,
Thank you for reminding me why I never go on celebrity gossip sites. When people such as yourself resort to unfounded and off-topic insults, because they cannot formulate a rational and educated response, I know it's time to move on. I realize that it easier to call people names (which any kindergartner can do) than to have an actual discussion or debate.
To other users, who make their points intelligently and on-topic, keep up your good work! This was not aimed at you.
Rebekah, Wall Street corruption is illegal. Abortion is legal. Women aren't stupid and ARE aware that there exists places that offer counseling in helping them make their decision whether to abort or not. Nobody wanders into an abortion clinic seeking advice, they are seeking an abortion. All the boo-hooing and blaming the clinic that provided the procedure the woman WANTED is just another way for the woman to avoid responsibility for her decision. I have a friend, married with 2 little girls, and this friend cheats constantly on her husband and he cheats on her. She's pregnant now, the father is not the husbands and is of anothe race entirely. There will be no way to pass this baby off as her husbands. All the immoral activity that got her to this horrible place has yet to cause even one sleepless night for her. She's quite happy with her lover on the side. Last time I checked, the 10 Commandments listed 10 rules, all equal in severity and all forgivable by God according to Christian beliefs. My friend, who's been utterly unfazed by breaking at least 8 of them on a regular basis, is now overwhelmed by the decision she must make. The reason she's having such a hard time is because she absolutely must make the decision AND live with her conscious, i.e. take responsibility. The other "sins" she commits with regularity are apparently not so important because she can rationalize them and hide them. However, having to explain to her husband and her two daughters how this mixed race child came to be is something she's not finding so easy to deal with. Accountability is tough. Abortion is not easy to deal with either, but it's odd to me how she's decided to take a moral stance on this particular issue, which will hurt countless innocent people, whereas her moral compass takes a nosedive daily when it comes to the other Commandments. Don't blame the clinics - they operate legally and they aren't in the business of soothing souls. There are plenty of centers that do cater to soul searching/soothing.
Rebekah - Don't let the obnoxious folk get in the way of your own discussions. There will be people like this on every messageboard. It makes them feel better to call people names. Obviously it's a sign of insecurity and/or lack of true intelligence.
I am fascinated by people's difference of opinions, and I too would love to truly debate things, without the juvenile insults.
Bam-a-Lam,
Thanks for an appropriate and on-topic response!
I did not mean to insinuate that I blame the abortion clinics or question their legality. Like I said, I just find that their group name is ironic.
I know where you are coming from with your friend's situation. People's levels of morality are often conflicting and irrational. I think you were likely correct, that this "sin" of hers has hit her harder because she will not be able to hide it. And having two children, she also realized what she would be giving up if she sought an abortion. I do not envy her the choice she faces.
I do hope you realize that there are many young women (and I'm sure even older women) who truly do not realize their own options when it comes to their pregnancy. This does not in any way mean they are stupid, or not smart. It means they are un-informed and sometimes uneducated. And sometimes they are too scared or embarrassed to seek more help or information. I think you would be very surprised to realize how many women and girls truly do not know what types of counseling and support services are available. I do not condemn any girl/woman for her choice (one way or the other) I just wish that every woman could be making that choice knowing all of their options and knowing what support is out there. There are many women who walk into an abortion clinic, not because they don't want their baby, but because they really do believe it is their only option.
Working in social services, I see it every single day. Women, men and every age level, completely unaware of what is available to them, or what options they have. Grown adults go to their doctors, and receive medication or surgery, and often don't realize that they have the right and option to get a second opinion. People are arrested and assigned an attorney, and don't realize that they can ask the judge to be re-assigned a different attorney if there is a true conflict. Many people don't realize that they have the right to fight a traffic ticket in court. That might sound unrealistic, but it's the truth.
I didn't mean to go on so long. Thanks again, for a well thought out response!
Rebekah, it's been a pleasure having a discussion that covered the issues and addressed concerns, with no ranting or putdowns. Working in social services like you do, I know you see all kinds of women in some serious predicaments. It's good that people like yourself are there to guide them to alternatives so they can at least come to terms with their decision, whatever it may be. I'm strongly pro-choice, and I do mean pro-CHOICE. Whatever a woman feels is right for her situation is what she must do. My friend has to think about explaining to her existing kids how this new sibling came to be, and I'm not at all sure she's even thinking about that. All she's concerned with at this point is her own guilt - over an abortion, not over what got her to this point.
Thank you for sharing your viewpoints and for listening to mine, with no rancor or judgment. Again, it's been a pleasure! It's so nice to be able to discuss something like this without it degenerating into a "I know you are but what am I?" kind of thing. Have a great day and know somebody out here is glad you're in a position to provide direction to some truly lost souls, and you do it. Peace out, my dear.
@Scott: We are already in a depression. There are people all over this country who have been adversely affected by the last 8 years of failed policy's. The people you voted for failed our country. Why not keep an open mind and give a new approach a chance. It is interesting how in the bizarro world that is the republican party it is idiotic to vote for a former head of the Harvard Law review but smart to vote for a soccer mom.
All this back and forth reminds me of my brother. He's a Republican, and a lawyer, so he isn't stupid, so that whole "redneck republican" thing doesn't fly. He is also my slumlord. Talked me into moving into this piece of shit house, now I'm stuck here til May until I can afford to move. Anyway, he's whiny just like the rest of the people on this board. You can't have a political conversation with him. Now it's all "Obama is solely responsible for the stimulus plan". Wasn't McCain's plane crashing ass(don't drink and fly a jet folks)trying to cease the campaign so he could get his cheating behind to Washington to push it through when Bush (yeah, Bush) first proposed it?
Man, you whiny little bitches sure have selective memory.
That was, indeed, a juvenile insult because it's the only thing you people understand and deserve, because, like my brother, you people are impossible to talk to…..
I only WISH Obama was a Marxist. We might actually get some half way decent health care in this country. Sign me up.
@IloveaMErica
There is no money for ACORN in the bill, but thank for coming here and drooling all over yourself. You got that info from that wackado Bachmann and sadly, it's an outright lie.
But let's all skim our copies of the bill and hope that there's a clause in Baracks new legislation to prevent Palin from putting her kids on TV and then complaining that everyone is talking about them.
I did enjoy that moment later on in the interview when Palin smelled a camera and came in from the other room in order to stick her big fat face in it. That is what she does with cameras after all, so I wasn't too surprised.
I think the largest piece of recent information that has thus far been forgotten is that GW was in office for 8 years!! He was warned a long time ago about the impending economic situation but chose to ignore it!! HE is the one to blame for this economy-not Obama! Obama has been in office FOR ONE MONTH!! He must now unravel the quagmire that Bush left for us all-Republican, Democrat, Male, Female, etc. Bush didn't give a rat's ass about any of us!!! He got his oil money and blew us all off!! UNDERSTAND?
@Rebekah: I am a doctor and no, I'd have to disagree with you… it's our job to inform the patient of ALL the choices available to them. This is how I was trained in medical school and this is how I (and all my colleagues) practice medicine. It is ultimately the patient's choice to make the decision (within the limits of what is legal) and that's what pro-choice is. You, my friend just offered a biased opinion which also happens to be inaccurate.
@MArk: Dude, your caps are on…
But really, it's all about job creation… Maybe that funding will go to a scientist who has spent the last 5 years on a thesis, studying the "wetland mouse". Just because you don't understand something doesn't mean it's wrong, after all, Sarah Palin went around during her campaign mocking "fruitfly research", which turned out to be a rather idiotic thing to do (go figure), since we use the fruit fly as a model for many diseases- including the motor apparatus of cell division and cancer (my boyfriend's PhD work, which he gets 5 years of NIH funding for), neuronal development and autism, tuberous sclerosis, etc, but again, Palin was too stupid (or misinformed) to know this, which in itself isn't a crime, but perhaps she shouldn't have criticized it without reading more about the subject. The same goes for you…
@Rhonda: "koolaid drinkers"? What does that even mean? You sound reaaaallllly smart…
Ah Yes The Obama YES WE CAN CROWD! NOT ONLY HE SIGNED THE GENERATIONAL THEFT ACT 2009 HE ALSO WANTS ANOTHR STIMULUS (PORKULUS PACKAGE!
HE ALSO WANTS TO KEEP POURING MORE MONEY INTO THE MORTGAGE CRISIS!
PRETTY SOON ALL OF YOUR CHILDREN AND GRANDCHILDREN WILL PAY FOR IT.
I PREDICT THIS PORKULUS PACKAGE WILL ONLY DO GOOD IN THE SHORT TERM BUT IN THE LONG TERM IT WILL LEAD TO STAGFLATION AND LEAD TO TAX HIKES TO PAY FOR THIS CRAP.
NICE GOING OBAMA ASS KISSERS!
stacy, don't you know?
it's step 2 in the GOP guide to arguments.
Here's the whole list, step by step…
1) call Obama "the messiah"
2) make a reference to having "drunk the kool-aid" (I counted at least two in this thread…way to follow the handbook, guys and girls!)
3) claim that Obama is not a US citizen because he hasn't shown us his birth certificate yet
4) complain about the main stream media but don't acknowledge that Fox is PART of the msm…
5) berate Obama for his performance after three weeks in office but ignore the fact that the previous admin FUCKED OUR COUNTRY UP THE ASS for the past 8 years
6) when called out for bias, lie and say that "I'm actually a democrat but I look at things objectively" and then repeat your criticisms of Obama
7) pretend you're offended when the other side uses a bad word or insult, but then do the same thing once you think they've forgotten about it
8) throw out a celebrity's name as if they are representative of the entire democratic party
9) deflect the argument with something else, claim victory, and flee the thread.
Stacy-@Stacy: Thanks for jumping into the discussion!
You stated that you think my opinion is biased and inaccurate. But bias implies that there is a partiality that prevents me from being objective. I actually strive to understand both sides of a situation before developing an opinion. I do have an opinion, as do you, but having an opinion does not indicate the presence of bias. And labeling an opinion as inaccurate is actually contradictory, and simply your own opinion. An opinion is personal and based on an individual's interpretation of facts or events. Opinions by nature are not factual, and cannot be unequivocally called right or wrong.
You said that you are a doctor and were trained in medical school to offer your patients all of their choices. That is indeed how doctors should be trained, and hopefully a practice that they follow. But obviously, we live in a world where not everyone practices what they teach. Doctors are trained to be ethical and do the right thing, but that doesn't mean they always do. Doctors are human, and that means there will be human problems involved. Some doctors might give out illegal prescriptions. And some doctors might not offer every patient all their choices. To believe that this never happens seems naive.
Along the same vein, I whole-heartedly believe that there are some doctors who perform abortions that DO speak at length with their patients and make sure they understand their options. I commend these doctors for their time and effort, and wish more doctors would follow their lead.
But I also believe that many abortion clinics are not run this way. The patient spends more time with the nurse or medical assistant than with the doctor. And when the doctor does speak with the patient it usually about the procedure itself, and what to expect before, during and after the procedure. Depending on the type of clinic, the doctor may explain the types of abortion that the patient may have, such as vacuum aspiration or chemical. The doctor may also ask the woman if she has considered all her options. Asking this is NOT the same as discussing the options with her.
Would you just ask a cancer patient if they had considered all their options, without explaining in detail what each option is? Of course not.
People presume that a pregnant woman automatically knows what all her options are, or should so her own research to figure it out. But why make this presumption? People don't presume that cancer patients know what all their options are, or don't expect them to do their own research to find a treatment.
@Rebekah: That was really long… Your words: "Pro-choicers usually just push for abortions"- opinion or fact?
Opinion.
You went on to support your opinion by narrating a story about how your "patients" never get other options by pro-choicers in the abortion clinics, thus trying to convince readers that this is a fact.
Second point, your "fact" is biased because we already know you are anti-abortion, so your views or opinions about doctors who perform procedures in an abortion clinic are skewed. Have you ever been to an abortion clinic?
Another point is the clinics- they are full of professionals who offer a service, not some sort of political refuge for gung-ho baby killers. As a doctor, I respect the right of a person to choose (thus pro-choice), but I myself would not get an abortion. There is a difference btw pro-choice and pro-abortion and the two aren't mutually inclusive. Seeing a patient as a PCP is different from seeing a patient at an abortion clinic. You work in social services, it's your job to counsel patients, in abortion clinics, the job is procedures.
Anyway, we would probably never agree, but don't paint an ugly picture of the other side "based on what you hear" when you don't really understand that stance or the people who subscribe to that stance.
@anon: Well, in that case, who can I offend by calling a dickwad?
@Stacy:
When I was in college my best friend thought she was pregnant and came to crying. She told me flat-out that if she was pregnant she would have an abortion. I told her that while I know that I, myself, would never have an abortion, that I would never condemn her for whatever choice she made and would even go with her to the clinic if necessary. I believe this is the same exact position that you just described for yourself.
(Btw, she wasn't pregnant and is now married and expecting her first baby)
I have not once stated a preference, but questioned the system of abortion and labels. Yet you choose to label me "anti-abortion" which is not a clear cut label for me. I have not questioned the RIGHT of the woman to get an abortion, just getting one without being presented with all her options.
I do agree with you that there is a big difference between between pro-choice and pro-abortion. Just like anti-abortion is very different from pro-life.
You asked if some of my statements were opinions, and I clearly stated in my last reply that I knew I had been giving opinions. My last reply was just pointing out that opinions don't indicate bias, and are not meant to be represented as factual.
To answer your question, yes, I have been to abortion clinics. Again, in support of people, simply because I care. Have you sat with someone who is scared and confused and hating themselves for what they are doing? My statements and opinions have not been based through someone else's words but through my own experiences.
You say that the abortion clinic is about procedure. But this contradicts your earlier statement that doctors are trained to give patients all options. And this is exactly what I have been trying to convey. Abortion is so much more than a procedure. for many people it's a life-altering decision, and the doctors and workers at the clinic should be better at discussing options. Not all women (actually almost none) happen to be involved with a social worker when they go for an abortion and they don't know who else, besides the doctor, to talk to.
**I also just wanted to make clear that none of this is meant to be personal, just theoretical debate and an exchange of beliefs and ideas.
@anon: Great breakdown! :-)
Are there people out there who really DON'T know what "drinking the Kool-Aid" refers to? Geez. Check out Jim Jones on Google. (cult)
Interesting to read the comments on this, so much more so than the article itself.
First, there was one post who stated who cares what 18 year old girls think. As an adult, not I, but as the mother of an almost 18 year old girl, I know that she will be listening. Since I was a teen mother, I think it is important that Bristol gets hear. We can tell our kids, but what do we know? We're old and don't know what it's like to be a teenager, but if Bristol speaks, some of them might actually listen. As for the comment about speaking in sentences, does, like no one, like totally remember Moon Unit Zappa, who like totally couldn't, like, make a complete sentence, like, after she did the back track on Valley Girl by Frank Zappa? That was back in 1981, so ValSpeak has been around since at least the late 70's.
As for the Dem vs Rep arguments on here……Do any of you honestly think because you supported McCain that you will be safe from what happens now? The "sit back and watch what happens to you Obama supports" attitude is quite amusing actually, to those of us looking in especially. Whatever your politics may be, you are all in the same boat now, whether you like it or not.
@anon: YEs ONCE AGAIN WE HAVE THE OBAMA ASS KISSERS GOING ALONG WHILE HE PUTS THE LARGEST PORKULUS PACKAGE IN USA HISTORY. OR KNOWN AS THE GENERATIONAL THEFT ACT 2009.
NEXT HE WANTS TO BAIL OUT AND PUT MORE MONEY INTO MORTGAGES FOR PEOPLE WHO CAN'T AFFORD TO LIVE THEIR MEANS AND PAY THEIR BILLS ON TIME.
NEXT HE WANTS ANOTHER PORKULUS PACKAGE! TO ALL OF YOU OBAMA ASS KISSERS HE WANTS TO GIVE US MORE PORK AND KOOL AID!
PASS THE PORK AND KOOL AID PLEASE!
mark, did you care when it was the republicans spending money?
you know, like billions on that war that was about WMDs? those WMDs that never existed?
or, you know, on the bailout for Wall Street?
or any of their other massive spending, that resulted in a doubling of the debt over eight years?
I realize this link is to an opinion piece, but it perfectly explains why you and your ilk have no leg to stand on.

@anon: Actually I did care when the REPublicans did it. FIRST JUST BECAUSE I AM A CONSERVATIVE DOESN'T MEAN I AM A MEMBER OF THE REPUBLICAN PARTY.
SECOND I AM AN INDEPEDENT CONSERVATIVE, AND YES I DISAGREE WITH BOTH PARTIES WHO MADE THAT BAILOUT HAPPEN LAST SEPTEMBER.
AND THIRD I AM VERY CRITICAL OF BOTH PARTIES. I AM VERY CRITICAL OF BUSH AND VERY VERY CRITICAL OF OBAMA!
SPENDING MONEY OUT OF THE RECESSION DOESN'T STIMULATE THE ECONOMY! STUDYING THE HABITATS OF "WETLAND MOUSE" IN SAN FRANCISCO IS NOT STIMULATING THE ECONOMY!
BAILING OUT PEOPLE WHO ARE NOT RESPONSIBLE AND PAY THEIR BILLS ON TIME IS NOT WHAT TAXPAYERS SHOULD PAY FOR.
AND YES I DISAGREE WITH BOTH PARTIES BAILING OUT WALL STREE! I AM A FAIR GUY!
I GO AFTER BOTH PARTIES AND IT SHOULD BE THE AMERICAN PEOPLE WHO MAKE POLITICIANS ACCOUNTABLE.
OBAMA IS ANOTHER DAMN POLITICIAN! AND NO I AM NEITHER A DEMOCRAT OR REPUBLICAN JUST ANOTHER CONCERN TAXPAYER.
@anon: Also One more thing, That is not a STimulus bill but a Porkulus Bill!
MY CHILDREN AND YOUR CHILDREN WILL PAY FOR IT!
@anon:
First You are going to Listen to Robert Scheer, THAT LEFT-WING RADICAL!
SPENDING OUR WAY INTO A RECESSION ONLY LEADS TO HIGHER STAGFLATION AND INFLATION.
THE PORKULUS BILL MAY HELP SHORT TERM BUT IN THE LONG TERM IT WILL LEAD TO HIGHER INFLATION.
LEADING TO HIGHER INFLATION MEANS TAX HIKES, AND NO TAX CUTS FOR THE "SO CALLED RICH" SINCE ABOUT THE TOP 5 PERCENT PAYS FOR 70% PERCENT OF TAXES.
AND ALSO IT WILL PROLONG THE RECESSION.
mark, you're full of it. and you showed it by saying your "very" critical of bush, and "very, very" critical of Obama.
first, I've never seen you criticize a single republican. second, you've shown your bias by being "very" on one, and "very very" on another, when the former did nothing but fuck up for 8 years, and the latter has been in office only a month.
third, your nonsense about the "wetland mouse" is incorrect.
http://theplumline.whorunsgov......brication/
http://www.politifact.com/trut.....isco-mice/
the fact that you're repeating a GOP talking point shows even further how you're full of it with your claim that you're not biased.
And stop yelling.
please tell me what Robert Scheer said that wasn't true.
left-wing radical? hardly. you're showing your true colors, Mr. "I'm a independent".
well, apparently my post with the links in it was removed. Doesn't make sense, as they weren't spam, porn or virus laden. alternative media is a no-go on Jossip? you guys are censoring now?
regarding the "studying the habits of the wetland mouse" nonsense, that is completely untrue.
google "stimulus bill wetland mouse" and you'll see what I mean.
