Mark your calendar: Wednesday morning, February 18, the Rosenblats will appear on GMA and tell all: why they lied, how they lied, who helped them to lie and if they will continue lying anymore. Stay tuned. It should be an explosive show, with major newspaper stories following the very next day.

Meanwhile, Elizabeth Day, a savvy reporter in Britain who works for the Observer newspaper there, flew to Miami earlier this month to try to get an interview with Mr Rosenblat. As she describes the situation in her recently-published article headlined “When one extraordinary life story is not enough”, Mr Rosenblat refused to see her for a sit-down chat.

Day writes: “When I ring their bell, Roma answers, her unsmiling face blurred by the mesh of the security screen. She is a squat but formidable 76-year-old, wearing a striped shirt over cream trousers and lumpish slippers. Her short hair is dyed brown. Her small, dark eyes squint into the light. Herman, 78, is standing silently in the corridor behind her, an imposing man in glasses and a goatee.”

She adds: “I ask if they are Mr and Mrs Rosenblat. “No,” she says flatly, in a thick eastern European accent. “They’re not here. They don’t live here.” But having already seen photos of the couple, I know it is them. When I say I would like to give them a letter, it is Herman who softens. He takes a few steps forward and gestures with his hands for Roma to open the screen. She takes the letter and closes the door. As I walk away, I wonder if either of them is struck by the irony that they are still lying about who they are.”

As loyal readers of RushPRnews know, this website was the first to break the story in public about the now-recalled children’s book about the couple “wartime experiences” — titled “The Apple” — and Mr Rosenblat’s cancelled-before-publication “memoir” titled “Angel at the Fence” — back on October 15, 2008. Later reports in The New Republic and the New York Times went into detail about how the literary fabrication was carried out.

Day in London also notes: “Doubts about the Rosenblat memoir started circulating on the Internet and were mentioned by the eminent Holocaust historian Deborah Lipstadt on her website as early as December 2, 2007. Shortly afterwards, Danny Bloom, a 59-year-old Jewish-American reporter for RushPRnews, picked up on some of the story’s discrepancies and started emailing academic experts asking them to look into the veracity of Rosenblat’s account. “I just remember thinking, ‘How could this humanly be possible?’” Bloom [said]. “My challenge was to prove it wasn’t kosher.”

Has "Good Morning America" Lost its Mind and Its Integrity

I write this from London so I don't know if this segment has aired already but I am just flabbergasted.

I understand that GMA is going to run a segment featuring Herman Rosenblat, who lied repeatedly about his Holocaust experience, and his sleazy film producer, Harris Salomon, who told me he knows more about the Holocaust than I do [could be... but I somehow doubt it since he was peddling this as a true story for a long time]

Even more egregiously, Salomon tried to silence Professor Ken Waltzer from publishing his own research on this matter. Salomon, wrote to the president and deans of Michigan State trying to intimidate them into silencing Waltzer.

Now he is trying, once again, to make a buck off of Rosenblat's lies and falsehoods.

Over the past year friends of the Rosenblats have written to me in concern about what this has done to them. I expressed some sympathy. I thought they were pretty off balance folks but so be it….

Now they go on with their story but have issued no apologies to the myriad of people — including their own family — to whom they have caused great pain.

And Good Morning America becomes a tool by giving their sleazy producer publicity.

Funny the 1st comment compares him to Madoff, I wrote a story a week ago about Bernie and being duped back in the late '80s by someone of his ilk and creed.

Dangerous journo territory and there is a victim, 'I have to get mine, screw you' sickness in 1st and some 2nd generation Holocaust survivors that most do not see except in the case of Bernie and Herman.

What strikes most is the complete lack of anything resembling shame as they almost feel entitled to get what they want by any means possible. It's narcissistic and suicidal and the result is always the same, they stare blankly at the camera, justify and shrug, quite perplexing.

Taht guy on GMA appearing with Herman was most probably his film producer mentioned in the AP story, Harrison Solomon or something. I heard his "voice" once on an Israeli national radio program a few years ago promoting his "movie that will never be" about the apples that never were. I am sure that is Harrison. The news media will tell us tomorrow. Harrison is the guy who wants to turn Mr R's fake story into a fake movie. The bets in Hollywood are that 1. the movie will never be made, 2. because there is no financing for it and 3. all this PR stuff on GMA is to try to raise funds for the movie that will never get made and 4. we all know why. This entire thing is playing out as a shameful enormous farce and Herman's appearance on GMA today is nothing more than shameful and ill-thought out. My guess is that he is being coralled into this by the above mentioned Harrison Solomon. But I rather liked the interview on tape above, Mr R sounds like a likeable avuncular pathological liar the likes of which we have not seen for a very long time. I wonder how the GMA people got the get? Was it filmed in NYC or down in Miami? I cannot wait to see the uproar in the media tomorrow after all this airs. NEW YORK (AP) — The author of a discredited Holocaust memoir is not apologizing.

Herman Rosenblat, who has acknowledged inventing his story of meeting his wife on opposite sides of a concentration camp fence, told "Good Morning America" that he has no regrets and would tell the story again given another chance.

"It wasn't a lie," he said during a taped segment aired Wednesday. "It was my imagination, and in my mind, I believed it. Even now, I believe it."

Until scholars refuted him, Rosenblat and his wife, Roma, were beloved worldwide and appeared twice over the past decade on Oprah Winfrey's talk show. His tale of meeting his future wife at a sub-camp of Buchenwald, where she allegedly sneaked him apples and bread, endearing him to millions.

Rosenblat, a Holocaust survivor whose book, "Angel at the Fence," was pulled last year before publication, told GMA that his wife went along with his story "because she loves me."

Winfrey has since criticized Rosenblat, but her Web site, http://www.oprah.com, still includes his admittedly false story as the first example of "Love Lessons from Amazing Couples."

If I were so cruel and ignorant to tell a lie this big. I would hide in shame for a few years. What kind of a person tells a lie for 10 years and can be unrepentant? People will do anything for money. Not believing that "true love" exists, yet I believe it for 10 years and told many people about this "incredible love story". I was waiting for the book and movie to be made since I first heard the story on ths show "I'ts a miracle" I AM HOPING THAT THE MOVIE AND BOOK WILL NOT BE MADE.I WILL NOT GO AND SEE IT AND I WILL TELL OTHERS NOT TO GO. I hope that not making the movie and book will at least give Herman and Roma some punishment of lost $$ This is an insult to the Jewish people, most especially the prisioners of the camps. Debra, above: Very good post, and you can imagine how Jewish people feel about this sad interview too. My own feeling as an amateur shrink is that Mr Rosenblatt is NOT after money, but that he is mentally sick, unbalanced, and his handlers behind him, those producers in Hollywood, are pushing him to keep telling his story in the hopes of keeping the story alive so they can raise enough funds to make the movie. But my gut instinct tells me that after this pathetic interview, with the controllling Hollywood producer seen pacing in tbe background, whoever he is, I never heard of his name in Hollywood circles, and I work in Hollywood, Debra, sister to sister. My gut instinct is that the movie that is said to be "being planned" will never get made, and there won't be any new book either. These scmucks are obviously desperate. But don't blame the old man, he is almost 90 and he is mentally unstable. Look at his face and eyes. The culprits are the younger people in publishing and movie biz who want to further their careers with this crap. It will never happen, Debra.
