Tears for Broadway Fears: Piven Cried His Way Through Union Interview, Press Interview

SAG Awards Arrivals

Yesterday Jeremy Piven met with Speed-the-Plow's producers and Actors' Equity to discuss the curious case of his mercury poisoning exit. Officially, they agreed on nothing, but that mostly benefits Piven, who has the most to lose here. Which explains why he got so emotional during the proceedings, and dug deep into his first year acting class to produce tears on demand. Reports the Post:

After hours of arguments, the joint panel of five actors and five producers couldn't agree whether to sanction the party-boy actor for skipping town last December midway through the play's run.

Sources say Piven broke down several times during the hearing as he described, in great detail, his suffering while ill.

Which means not only did Piven get off the hook (for now), he also pulled at our heart strings, knowing full well his battle to hold back the waterworks would be eagerly reported by the press. And humanize him.

Piven: 1, Broadway: 0.

Cannot understand why this mediocre actor is in demand?

Clearly he did not want to finish his run in this play for whatever reason (probably curtailed his social life)so he came up with this far-fecthed ailment to get out of his contract. The Great White Way should ban him from ever appearing on another Broadway stage. Any serious actor will tell you that Broadway is where you learn your craft.

@ Darth Paul: I guess we all have our definition of hot, I much prefer Hugh Dancy or one of the other Brit dudes :)

I wanted to see this play for Elizabeth Moss, not Piven anyway. He seems like a not very nice person.

@bam-a-lam: I accidently cut him off once in West hollywood and he followed me for like a mile in his car and screamed at me for five minutes non-stop from his Range Rover at a red light all the while ogling my tits(I was in a miata at the time). Spoiled brat short fuse. He is much hotter in person though.

Actually Piven isn't the winner. Broadway is a very close knit community, and I would be VERY surprised if he was ever cast in a Broadway play again. The same can be said for London. The shit he pulled just isn't acceptable.
