If you're looking for bipartisan diplomacy, turn back now. This is the post about how conservatives are lying, frightened hypocrites. That's not our opinion – well, not just our opinion – it's science's.

Hypocrisy
According to newly released research into online pornography consumption in America, eight of the top 10 porn-purchasing states were red, meaning they went to McCain-Palin in the most recent election. And while Mississippi and Louisiana enjoy masturbating in front of their computers a whole lot (even more than California!), the largest overall consumer was Utah, where alcohol laws still border on Draconian under the informal Mormon theocracy.
States where a majority of residents agreed with the statement "I have old-fashioned values about family and marriage," bought 3.6 more subscriptions per thousand people than states where a majority disagreed. A similar difference emerged for the statement "AIDS might be God's punishment for immoral sexual behaviour."
So what? Well, as you probably already know, it's well documented that one characteristic of red states is their unusually high populations of evangelicals. And evangelicals, of course, despise lewd and lascivious content, the kind necessitating the FCC and the MPAA ratings system. Or do they? This new research would suggest that, despite their claims to the contrary, evangelicals like watching hardcore sex as much as any red-blooded blue-stater, the only difference being that they lie about that desire because they're ashamed of their urges. That's called sanctimoniousness, and it stinks to high heaven.

Fear
If they're that frightened of their own sexuality, imagine how easy it was to manipulate these people into years of stockpiling food and barring their windows every time Fox News said "orange alert." In fact, there's scientific proof conservatives frighten more easily than liberals: "In reflex tests of 46 political partisans, psychologists found that conservatives were more likely than liberals to be shocked by sudden threats." From there it was easy for researchers to find the correlation between the hair-trigger fear response of conservatives and Bush administration tactics.
Asked whether the findings imply a fearmongering strategy for conservatives, New York University psychologist David Amodio responded, "Yes. And some people believe that they are actively using this strategy."
Is it any wonder ridiculous, fraidy-cat talking points – SOCIALISM! SECRET RUSSIAN TIES! FOREIGN BORN! MUSLIM! – are now the go-to attacks on President Obama?

Willingness to Believe Lies
By itself, the conservative's unique willingness to believe in non-existent boogeymen might be tolerable; every child must now and again be assured there's nothing under the bed. But one particular bit of data truly makes the right's fear unbearable: If conservative zealots are told directly that what they believe to be true is a lie, many will not reconsider their beliefs, but instead cling to the false truth even harder than before. Dig this:
Political scientists Brendan Nyhan and Jason Reifler provided two groups of volunteers with the Bush administration's prewar claims that Iraq had weapons of mass destruction. One group was given a refutation — the comprehensive 2004 Duelfer report that concluded that Iraq did not have weapons of mass destruction before the United States invaded in 2003. Thirty-four percent of conservatives told only about the Bush administration's claims thought Iraq had hidden or destroyed its weapons before the U.S. invasion, but 64 percent of conservatives who heard both claim and refutation thought that Iraq really did have the weapons.
In other words, left to their own devices, conservatives might actually come to their senses. But if you at all try to sway their beliefs with contradictory information, they'll dart back into their dark world of ignorance like a frightened mollusk. Researchers have taken to calling this the "backfire effect," a phenomenon not exhibited by liberal study participants.
A similar "backfire effect" also influenced conservatives told about Bush administration assertions that tax cuts increase federal revenue. One group was offered a refutation by prominent economists that included current and former Bush administration officials. About 35 percent of conservatives told about the Bush claim believed it; 67 percent of those provided with both assertion and refutation believed that tax cuts increase revenue.
Now go ahead and start in with the "Jossip sucks!" and "Follow your Obama messiah, IDIOTS!" We'd expect nothing less from terrified, ignorant, hypocrites.

Conservative: it's a noun, it's an adjective, it's a mental disorder!
bitter, bitter…
no comment on the hard numbers produced by this study? they're interesting, to say the least.
good job on step #9 from the handbook, tho.
that is, deflect the argument with something else, claim victory, and flee the thread.
but I'm sure you'll stick around with some ultra-witty comments and pictures that have no relevance to the post.
LOL, all this "Conservative" 'bashing' is fun aint it,
SO when are we going to start the "Liberal" bashing?
Hold on, "HYPOCRISY, FEAR, WILLINGNESS TO BELIEVE LIES" yeah you got todays Lefty-Liberals covered there! -Good Job :-)
It's also a statistical fact that Christians are far more likely to demand heroic life saving measures to extend their lives - despite the quality or lack thereof. Which makes me wonder. If heaven's so damn great, why are Christians so afraid to go there?
Not saying you didn't do it better, but Gawker had a post really similar to this. http://gawker.com/5052329/scie.....epublicans
EXCELLENT post and completely on target, especially regarding how conservatives dig in their heels and cling to their lies and guns when faced with FACTS.
P.S. I'm a liberal, and I LOVE porn! FANOFGRENDEL has to wack it in the corner of his basement under his computer desk, scared Chris Matthews is gonna show up any minute.
@Johnny Laughing His Ass Off: LOL, such HATE SPEECH coming from a "liberal". YEAH! I like porn too! (mainly asian girls) it was a habit I picked up in the US Navy, after I got off my farm :-) -isnt there a 'quiz' to follow?
Let's take it easy for a second. Isn't there a pretty good chance that some of these God-fearing Utahans feel a little guilty about getting free porn? Or maybe appreciation for the Bible makes them turn their noses at the low production quality of amateur porn?
I read something the other day about 'conservatives' enjoying humor more: http://www.nytimes.com/2008/11.....erney.html
Maybe they forgot to say 'just kidding' about some of this stuff.
@jonnyhairdont: You know, Ive always wanted to visit Utah (just to say I did) HECK! Im not "guilty" about "free porn", Im always looking for more! As for "amateur porn"… I saw some good stuff overseas (wasnt there a 'military service quiz' to follow?)
my bad! "jonnyhairdont" about the 'military quiz', that was for "johnny laughing his ass off". my apologies (see we "Conservatives" even have manners :-)
I don't think this kind of sensationalistic conservative-baiting leads to intelligent discourse it just angers some of the people here and leads to terrible infighting on these threads. The article is very interesting the title not so much. Just my opinion.
@getreal: INDEED! just look at the "war" on the thrad about 'Jim Cramer's comments VS. that dope/WH spokesman Gibbs' over on TVNewser
Its cool that you guys get to point out how conservative states view more porn. Lets think why 1) Porn outside of the internet is hard to find 2) Its a social taboo and therefore the ease of looking at it at home is easier 3) States that have lower numbers most likely have more places to see porn off the internet. 4) Lastly I bet that the majority of viewers of porn in conservative states are likely LIBERALS that need to yank off.
Ultimately this article has no real value considering you can't atually pinpoint who is looking at it as conservative or not.
Getreal; If you're looking for intelligent discourse what are you trolling the web for? Besides, sometimes the truth is funny.
Kinky-Neo-Con; Conservative bashing? Nah, just turning on the lights after 8 years. Your eyes will adjust.
I come to this site for it's interesting perspective on news stories not "trolling" for arguments. I like to hear and read intelligent points of view from conservatives as it is not a point of view I particularly understand.
Navy? Figures. You know that really isn't miliary, don't you? You might as well say you were in the air force.
Why did Kinky-Neo-Con join the Navy?
He can't get enough "sea men".
But…but Getreal…
'Conservative POV' and 'intelligent points' are mutually exclusive. But seriously, rent a sense of humor and enjoy yourself a little more. No one else takes you seriously, why should you?
@Johnny Laughing His Ass Off: AHOY! there 'johnny' (*wink*) I joined USN for the snappy 'cracker-jack' uniforms silly…They are FAB-ULOUS! Ah yes, "Seaman" jokes LOL! dont forget the "poop deck"! SO 'johnny' what service were you in? :-)
@getreal: …you know 'getreal' I dont get the "liberal point of view" -how ironic is that! or the current popularity of 'lefty hate speech' against Conservatives
"FANOFGRENDEL has to wack it in the corner of his basement under his computer desk, scared Chris Matthews is gonna show up any minute."
THAT'S what you call "hate speech"?
what about all the gems that the target of that "hate speech" has spewed? I notice you've never referred to any of it's postings as "hate speech" though they fall into that category much more than commenting on one's masturbation habits.
I think that's a variation on step 7 from the GOP handbook for arguing…that is, pretend you're offended when the other side uses a bad word or insult, but then do the same thing once you think they've forgotten about it.
good job on adapting for the situation!
It has also been said by equally qualified (I'm sure) brilliant people that conservative are far happier people than liberal counterparts, they give more to charity, and have better survival and recovery skills than liberals. I just wanted to be fair and balanced.
@Rhonda:If that is the case then why are their posts so angry person and usually sarcastic. It would be easier to believe that if there was not so much evidence to the contrary. I know I do a lot of volunteer work and give to charity. I also know that what some people consider giving to charity others don't conservatives in california gave tens of millions of dollars to the charity of yes on Prop 8. That campaign denied American citizens fundamental human rights, to me it isn't just giving to charity but giving to charities that make the world a better kinder place.
when you say "give more to charity", does that mean money, or time, or both? please elaborate.
@kinky-neo-con: Well if you don't understand then why not engage people with different beliefs system in debate on the issues. Isn't that what comment boards were supposed to be for? Not just a place to trade barbs at other people you will never meet having learned nothing in the process. It is likely everyone here has some intelligent insight to contribute that could actually lead to greater understanding of the issues. If you are interested in that like I am ignore the wacky posts of people who just want to insult and incite and post your perspective. I know I'm interested in reading everyone's opinion on the issues not how stupid this one or that one is is does not move the dialogue forward. Just my opinion.
@anon: Exactly and what constitutes a charity?
Standing in line, doesn't count. If its court-ordered it doesn't count. If your getting paid for your do-gooding it doesn't count……………Giving without expecting to receive anything back. Get the picture.
that doesn't answer the question, rhonda. but deflection is about what I expect from you.
again…does the term "contribute" mean time, money, or both?
@getreal: Well said… I have, and always will have, my own opinions/political views and no one on these posts or the 'media' will change that.
(but aint it just fun poking the dopes-morons-etc. with intelligence & wit & charm? -where you at 'johnny laughing ass off'? ;-)
And Rhonda…don't include 'giving' to the church of their choice. That's not charity, it's stupidity.
Would da ya say when you drop a glass in the chow hall? that should give you a hint. GETREAL? Good luck. I'm outta here. This whole thing is pointless and energy consuming. I'm sure we are gonna here "Johnny fled the thread." Whatever. I am confortable with my convictions, and don't have to constantly yammer some apethetic horse shit to make myself feel better or special. Later.
@Rhonda: Thanks for the obtuse answer. Obviously people giving money and getting nothing back is charity but there are a lot of bad charities out there or so-called charities that are actually for profit organizations. So when people talk about giving to charity it only has merit if you giving without self interest to a good organization and cause.
@getreal: Actually, one of the definitions of "charity" is "benevolent feeling, esp. toward those in need or in disfavor" (dictionary.com). Unfortunately you really can't define an act of charity as either as meritable or unmeritable in any terms other than your own because charity isn't just an act, it's a feeling. You are allowed to think that giving money to save the polar bears is a more worthy cause than giving money to yes on prop 8, but at the end of the day it's still all charity. I don't think Rhonda was making the point that conservatives typically improve the world more than liberals, only that they give more money and feel better about where they are giving that money. Not that there was any sort of reference to back up that claim…but still.
@spottsy: Well put. My only point was I see a lot of so called conservative charity as political influence under the guise of charity and often to bad causes.
@getreal: I gotcha. What's even worse (in my opinion) though, are the terrible things people throw their money at in order to feel better about what little they do in their lives when the money could be doing such better things. I was reading this article (http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/europe/7773799.stm) a while back about how developing countries need to cut their carbon emissions. Rather than spend money to educate and train people which will give them a competitive advantage in the labor force, thus increasing their incomes and allowing them to be less dependent on wood burning stoves (a major source of carbon emissions in the third world) and improve their lives overall, the clown who wrote the article suggests spending a bunch of money to replace all of their stoves to more environmentally friendly ones. He's basically saying "screw the people" and "save the environment". Now I'm all for helping the environment, but that's some messed up charity.
@fanofgrendel:
Yep.
You're too insane for me to argue but do you read books? Have you ever been at college/university were you need to back up your statements with facts?
So, tell me why your statement is just…so?
Obama is proposing a spending program that dwarfs the New Deal. His claim that he can reduce the deficit in the far future is based on assumption of the rosiest scenarios. Far more likely is the debt purchased by China will require huge interest rates that will send our economy into unimaginable stagflation. Socialism has never worked. Why would it now? By the time everyone accepts what Obama has done to them, it will be too late.
fanofgrendel:
what do you propose? and i don't mean that sarcastically, but what's your solution?
@fanofgrendel: Keep on humping the party line ya homophobic rush suckup! :)
@weezy: My proposal:
1) A 500 billion bucks true stimulus package made up of tax incentives to small businesses creating jobs, increases in safety net programs like unemployment insurance, and infrastructure and green energy programs PERIOD. None of the pork that's in Obama's package nor programs that won't start in over 18 months.
2) 5% Reduction in income taxes on on the first $20,000 of all workers.
3) A federal budget that is bare bone: no earmarks!
4) $10,000 tax credit on the purchase of a new home financed with 10% down, and a %2,000 tax credit on the purchase of new U.S. built car.
5) A government supported partnership with private enterprise to evaluate and purchase troubled mortgage backed securities from financial institutions so their balance sheets can be freed up enough for credit to begin flowing again.
My plan will reward those willing to work hard. That's why it has a chance of paying for the stimulus amount in the long run.
It is interesting that when the government subsidizes mortgages it's called tax breaks but when they subsidizes rentals it's welfare. I read recently that about 38% rents and 35% of America pays mortgages. I just thought it an interesting statistic.
be sure to check out factcheck.org for truth to all the lies about the stimulus pork–there is no field mouse money (in pelosi's home state) so lightrail from disney to the bunny ranch. i think the right is focusing on the dreaded PORK that makes up a very small percent of the stimulus package. it has become a talking point and not a reality in the big picture. and state reps can refuse the 'pork' they are asking for their states (yes, even repubs) if they are truly against.
funding infrastructure repair is a serious and needed project. it WILL create jobs and address a desperately needed service. green initiatives are NEEDED.
we threw money at Iraq, halliburton, blackwater–$700 BILLION TARP bailout, oversite free, just in october with nary a peep–so why the outrage now–because there is an agenda on the right.
someone on the right explain why you aren't cursing bush for destroying america's financial system with the TARP bailout and Iraq trillions.
Be sure to check out Jim Cramer's comments on what Obama is doing to the economy and why the White House is trying to shut up voices like his.
http://www.mainstreet.com/arti.....use?page=1
and Bush is gone, you fucking morons. The future is in Obama's hands and he is screwing it up!
bush may be gone, but the disasters he created are still hanging around!
i'm saying you can pick and choose your financial outrage–if your upset about government spending that be upset when EVERY leader does it (you moron)!
p.s. check cramer's history of 'advice' -ha!
i need spellcheck:
i'm saying you CAN'T pick and choose your financial outrage–if you're upset about government spending THEN be upset when EVERY leader does it (you moron)!
@weezy: Ha your ass! If I followed Cramers's advice in September, I would be $20,000 richer. Read his article if you dare, you Obama boot-licker.
@weezy: You bring nothing to the table but Obama propaganda.
okay fanofgrendel-hail obama the messiah!
you never answered my question–if you're upset about government spending then are you upset when EVERY president does it?
@weezy: I was upset when Bush overspent.
But the future can only be affected by the SPENDING GOING ON NOW!
It needs to stop, and Obama needs to fulfill his campaign promises and stop it. Even members of his own party like Evan Bayh are upset.
geez, you really show your ignorance.
"But the future can only be affected by the SPENDING GOING ON NOW!"
no, dear, the future will be affected (for a long time to come) by the drunken-sailor spending of the bush admin as well.
http://www.businessinsider.com.....er-charade
@anon: you only DO SOMEYHING about the spending going on now. Yesterdays spending is history. I can't do anything about the steak I bought last year. But I can avoid buying another steak I can't afford this year.
#55 is accurate, but your previous comment was NOT.
just the facts, ma'am.
@anon: Okay, here is the salient fact Sargent Friday, Obama needs to stop the unnecessary spending now or our troubles will only get worse.
your opinion. not fact.
just the FACTS, ma'am.
and all this leads me back to comment @1:
Keep up the smoke screen while Obama destroys what's left of the country.
@anon: You can't be anonymous while wearing a sticker that says DUMBASS on your head. Everyone knows who you are.
oh, uh….ha ha?
what a scathing retort. I'm just uh…devastated? no, that's not right…um…crushed? no, that's not right either.
um….laughing because you know I'm right and you have to insult me because it's all you have?
yeah, that's it.
@anon: Inverstors betting on the future just dropped the DOW another 281 points TODAY. Pension funds, 401-Ks, screaming. Laugh away, jerk.
one day does not a presidency make, jackass.
@anon: No, but dropping 2000 points since he was sworn in and proposed his plans makes a president jackass.
While economy is tanking:
President ignoring it while promoting socilized medicine scheme.
Vice President at a fancy hotel in Florida with AFL-CIO plotting to take away the secret ballot from union organizing.
Health related stocks are crashing and businesses shaking in fear.
Horseshit we can believe in.
MSM BREAKING NEWS Obama girls have a swing set, Obama has a few gray hair………Obama gives the PM of Britain a gift set of old movies, he selling-out the country and insulting stingy with our friends. It's Change alright. Obama's are classless people.
@Rhonda…classless? Your kids never had a swingset eh? No one you know likes old movies, right? Too busy looking at all that porn I'm sure.
Classless is better shown by looking at your mirror dear.
GE using MSNBC to front for Obama because their stock has dropped from $60 to $6. GE Capital needs a bailout.
@anon: These are the same people who said President Bush would be the best president ever, these are the people who swore up and down that they had weapons of mass destruction when we knew they didn't, these are the same people who said for year we were not in a recession. Why is it every conservative I know whose every prediction of the last five years has been proven WRONG still confidently makes all these predictions. History has spoken your crystal ball doesn't work. So try to come up with a new idea. Apathy, negativity, and arrogance are soo 2008.
and………
THE STOCK MARKET IS NOT THE ONLY INDICATOR OF THE ECONOMY OR HOW OUR NATION IS DOING AS A WHOLE.
how ignorant ARE you?
oh, wait…please see post #69. thanks, getreal.
and WTF does "insulting stingy with our friends" mean? speaka da engleesh?
btw, Flonkbob, Rhonda is SO classy that she referred to Michelle Obama as the "first hoe".
(yes, she even spelled it wrong. too stupid to even be a good bigot, that one.)
#65 & #66
if bush was in office we wouldn't be bored with reports on his family swing set while the economy was in the toilet, we'd be bored with reports about him playing golf or clearing brush on his ranch in crawford, texas.
as of march 11, 2008
george W. bush -our WAR TIME president took
879 DAYS OF VACATION!!!!
http://www.cbsnews.com/stories.....7378.shtml
just to put things in perspective for the whiners on here. of course i've opened the floodgates for snarky insults. have fun!
the British called the Obama's, rude and classless, compared Barry to a moody teenager, Michelle to Lady MacBeth. While the British PM gifted Barry with priceless artifacts from the anti-slave ship President, Barry gave the PM of Britain a box set of DVD's. Obama's need a "miss manners" class.
can't find that mysterious 'source' of the british PM's displeasure–so i assume that's a rush 'fact' (which means it's made up). nice try though. put it in an email and i'm sure eventually it'll find it's way to me like the rest of the slurs you guys have been peddling this past year.
@fanofgrendel
Do you have a job, or do you post on Jossip full time?
@redsongia: Jossip pays me. I told them I could raise the viewer comment levels, and they are pleased. Should help David with the sales price.

@kady:
I am a Christian-so what? I am not a Conservative "Porn-Seeker" and when my brother passed away suddenly this summer-oh how I longed to follow. He became a Christian at his deathbed (not from fear-he was such a sweet person-but TRUST had been stolen from him a long, long time ago and he accepted my prayers for him and I annointed him in the Name of Jesus Christ). Well, as I prayed for him and wept, I realized that I am not at all reluctant to enter into eternal one-ness with Jesus Christ. I'm just glad HE loves me! As to being afraid! That's good sense! God gave us a brain and expects us to use it and not be FOOLISH with our bodies. In fact-I've had a few serious medical "near-misses" and specifically said "No Blood and No extraordinary measures " I am NON-Denominational. And I voted for the "other" "white meat" candidate-they're all the same underneath the "Make-up" in our pathetic political election scheme. NOW-that said. I cannot help but agree that typical "Religious" conservatives ARE hypocrites. The sad part is they are a people "that honor ME (the LORD) with their LIPS-but their hearts are far from Me." (God speaking). Hey HE said it first!
@Lisa Smith:typical "Religious" conservatives ARE NOT hypocrites, just imperfect souls struggling in an imperfect world. Judge ye not, least ye be so judged.
right on anon, getreal, and weezy!
One of the following once had a sleepover at Michael Jackson's:
anon, getreal, or weezy
Can you guess which one
