Reading to Become Even More Complicated Than Ever

I'm almost done with Roberto Bolaño's 2666, which an ex gave me as a thank you for taking him to The Huffington Post Inaugural Ball earlier this year. That book has been a bitch to finish, especially because everyone else on the subway seems to be lugging around the 800+ page monster and I don't want to look like I'm just following a trend here.

Which is just a really long way of saying, damnit, I wish I had known about Amazon selling books for iPods now, so I could have just carried around my lightweight, portable 3×3 inch-Nano and read the book one word at a time, just the way God intended. What, was the Kindle getting too ubiquitous? I've never seen anyone with a Kindle IRL.

ugh, that would be such a pain in the ass. not to mention 2666 is one of those books where i find myself having to re-read paragraphs on a regular basis- partially because i am a skimmer, and bolano tends to turn a paragraph/long sentence/vignette on a single word and if you miss it you'll just read blithely along until you're like, wait. who the fuck are we following in this story now?

that being said, the book is pretty amazing.
