D.L. Hughley Broke the News, And Now CNN Took It Away

Putting the otherwise funny comedian out of his misery, CNN has finally canceled D.L. Hughley Breaks the News, the horrifyingly unamusing Saturday news-comedy show that wound up being a minstrel lead-in for Larry King Live repeats.

Debuting in October, Breaks the News was a failure from the start. Hughley's unfunny attempts at turning the failed bank Freddie Mac into a pimp character were less a crappy rip off of The Daily Show than they were Tonight Show monologue jokes that get thrown away long before they're able to make it to air.

The show became too painful to watch, really, so whatever excuse CNN found to cancel it — officially, it's "budget constraints," or maybe "'cause D.L. wanted to" — is fine by us.

CNN president Jon Klein is now famous for two things: Firing female talent over the age of 40, and besting even Fox News' terrible The 1/2 Hour News Hour at turning news parody into unwatchable schlock.

I wanted him to do well with this, but was definitely painful to watch.

He's not funny. His stand-up is awful and his knowledge of current events is so superficial. He was really painful to watch.

What the fuck.

Didn't you see his whole 'I don't agree with the gay lifestyle' bit when Dan Savage was on? That he's not down with gay marriage? He's a prick.

D.L. Hughley's show was mildly amusing at times - though I say this very loosely. However, his biggest issue was merely that he wasn't well read enough on the various subjects that his show discussed (as well as politics in general), therefore, he struggled in every interview he conducted — especially with a politician; does anyone remember that prick Michael Steele making a correction on every mistake D.L. made? You can tell D.L.'s confidence diminished as the show progressed because it was just flat-out embarassing for him; he knew he was way out of his league.

Well, not to mention, the presentation and production of the show was horrendous. I'm astonished it lasted as long as it did.

Though I also wanted to say that in the interveiw with Michael Steele, D.L. did in fact do a tremendous job and he truly displayed how rediculous and out-of-step the Rebuplican party is.
