Olbermann's "Sadist" Was Much Bigger Fan of Tim Russert

Gary Bernsten was a CIA operative until 2005, when he started writing books and doing lecture circuits about how might sometimes equals right. No, that's not fair: War is a gray and morally ambiguous territory, especially when it comes to prisoners of war and torture techniques.

But Bernsten is especially displeased with Keith Olbermann, who called him a "sadist" for saying the U.S. government failed their duty to execute Khalid Sheikh Mohammed and other Guantanamo detainees involved in 9/11. So Gary here has some words for Olbermann himself, and hits him right where it hurts.

Furthermore, MSNBC producers and Mr.Olbermann are not as informed or prepared as they should be—and I believe they do a poor job of representing the NBC brand. Let me provide a personal story to highlight my point. After retiring from the CIA in 2005 and publishing my first book, Jawbreaker, I did the television circuit for several months. One day I received a call from NBC informing me that Tim Russert wanted to interview me for his hour-long CNBC show. On the appointed day I traveled to Washington, D.C. When I entered the studio, the lights were down and Mr. Russert was already seated. In front of him was a copy of my book, Jawbreaker. It looked worn from use and notes were attached to dozens of pages. A cameraman directed me to my seat. I was nervous, of course. Tim Russert looked across the table and stated, “Welcome Gary. I have seen all of your interviews and read this book twice. I know you have been honest. That is why you are here today. Let’s begin the interview.” Tim Russert was probing, insightful and clearly in search of the truth. It was a privilege to be interviewed by him. The fact that Mr. Olbermann is now a major representative of the same brand is disheartening.

Blam! A Tim Russert blast straight out of nowhere. This guy is a torture expert.

Ha! Great post, Drew. Nice leveling of journalist-wannabe and first class jerk, Olby. Russert can't be replaced in my book, and this makes me want to buy Bernsten's.

Olbermann is the one that should be executed for being un-American.

Does ANYONE even watch MSNBC? Not according to the ratings and Olbermann? Well, he jumped the shark about 2 years ago when he started licking Obama's balls on national TV……so much for NBC….oh wait, that's the REAL news……too bad the line is so blurred you can't tell the difference…..

You said it, HP. Check Mediabistro/TVNewser's site; they have the daily read on the cable ratings. It's not so much that FOX has way higher ratings, it's that ALL of MSDNC is tanking. Olby, Maddow. Matthews have served their purpose getting Obama elected, now, no one cares abut them.

Olbermann is a liberal (or "progressive" if you really have your head up your ass) version of Rush Limbaugh but without any of the endearing qualities.
