Michael Phelps Apologizes For Smoking Pot (Which He Doesn't Admit to Smoking)

Matt Lauer kind of gives it to Michael Phelps in the first televised interview since Michael was caught smoking pot. What is he, like his dad? Lauer hits him with question after follow-up question, testing Phelps' media training. It's obvious when the swimmer could be lying (like when he says he nor his people tried to keep the photo from becoming public), and even more obvious where he was given specific instructions: Say you're sorry for the damage the pot smoking scandal caused, but do not admit to actually smoking pot.

 

I think the more important question here is: Is Michael Phelps still relevant? Like does anyone really still look at this guy and think "American hero…who shattered our dreams by toking up?" Jesus.

I think what it all comes down to is that these are human beings, not role models. They fuck up just as much (if not more)than we do.
