The Associated Press' Lies That Contradict Its Own Truths

In February this website reported the Associated Press, having learned Shepard Fairey appropriated one of its photos for use in his Obama "Hope" poster, was suing the artist for copyright infringement. The AP's director of media communications Paul Colford quickly emailed to correct our error: "The AP is not 'now suing' Shepard Fairey," Colford wrote, adding: "In your latest polemic, please get your 'facts' straight." Colford also questioned (denied?) our assertion the AP was "now ready to sue him" and that the two parties' attorneys were "meeting." We replied to Colford with a quote from this Bloomberg news report, filed 13 days prior to our item, which reported Colford himself saying, "The lawsuit [Fairey filed against the AP] took AP by surprise, Colford said, because the company was 'in the middle of settlement discussions' with Fairey's attorney last week and had agreed not to sue during the negotiations." Colford did not respond to our message that pointed out his contradiction. So unless Bloomberg invented Colford's quote, the AP's media man was flat out lying to Jossip about their attorneys meeting with Fairey's. And now, just to get our facts straight (or at least update them): The AP has now sued Fairey, which sort of suggests that they've been "ready to sue him," as we said. Please add Mr. Colford to your list of lying flacks who lie to your face.
