Tucker Carlson Uncovers Anti-Anti-Stewart Fatwah

Yeah, it's just as stupid as it sounds: the former Crossfire host (who would in no way have a grudge against Jon Stewart) blogs on The Daily Beast about how the media has declared war on anyone who defy The Daily Host's logic.

The relationship between Stewart and the media is a marriage of the self-loathing and the self-loving: He insists their real news is fake, they insist his fake news is real. He doesn't take them seriously at all. They take him way too seriously. But nobody takes anybody as seriously as Jon Stewart takes himself…

But it’s too late. The great comedian is gone, maybe forever. Jon Stewart is stuck in lecture mode.

First of all, it's really hard to picture Tucker Carlson mistily reminiscing about the "great comedian" Jon Stewart used to be before he got all self-righteous, since perhaps the funniest burn Stewart ever made was about grown men wearing bow-ties. Secondly, as much as Carlson is railing on "the media" (as if it's an animate object with thoughts and feelings?) for loving Jon Stewart so much, he spends half his article gushing over the time the two of them met backstage after the infamous Crossfire episode.

Unlike most guests after an uncomfortable show, Stewart didn’t flee once it was over, but lingered backstage to press his point. With the cameras off, he dropped the sarcasm and the nastiness, but not the intensity. I can still picture him standing outside the makeup room, gesticulating as the rest of us tried to figure out what he was talking about. It was one of the weirdest things I have ever seen.

Yeah, why would "the media" (by this we assume Carlson is talking about producers, or American audiences?) like someone who is passionate as well as funny? Good thing this Jim Cramer stuff happened so Carlson — who by all accounts reached his nadir quickly after that run-in with Stewart — can take another swat at relevance.

Hmm…this kind of puts Stewart in the image of a different kind of comedian:

@weezy: If you had to grow up with a name like "Tucker" you might be a big baby too. Wait a minute, "Weezy" is hardly the most macho of monikers, even if you're Lil' Wayne.

I agree that Stewart has let his "truth-teller" status go to his head and become a holier-than-thou, pompous ass. I found his Crossfire appearance in particular, which people seem to worship him for, to be supremely dickish. That being said, I highly doubt Stewart singled out Cramer because Cramer went against Obama. The Daily Show has always been an equal opportunity offender, it's just that the Republicans makes a much easier target.

Jon Stewart still rocks and Tucker needs to get over being dissed a few years ago by Stewart.
