Obama Gives Vlog Shout-Out to Iran

In an unprecedented move, Barack Obama extended the olive branch via YouTube video to the people and the government of Iran for their annual Nowruz festival. Video after the jump.

There has been lots of brilliant commentary on What this Means (most of it on Slate) but we're just kind of hoping for a personalized "Happy Yom Kippur" message come the fall.

Ive heard alot of criticism on this but I thinks its smart. It really speaks to the Iranians who want freedom and peace and if the goverment goes against that, they are at great odds, just a young Iranian hearing the phrase Iranian American really perks up their ears and inspires them for generations to come, very powerful.

i agree. this administration is good at using all avenues of the media to get their message out there. like i said in a different post, going on leno was pretty savvy as well because he reached a large leno audience, spoke about AIG a bit, acted calm and normal (see, everything's gonna be fine) and now the video clip has reached an even broader audience because it's gone viral.

Seems like a pretty lame way to run a foreign policy on u-tube. I believe this will be seen as a sign of weakness and Obama already appears weak on nearly everything. I don't know, I sure hope for the best, for the young people who have to fight these battles but it seems like a mistake to me to appear so weak to the rest of the world.

U.S. law-making is riddled with slapdash, incompetence and gamesmanship
By Terence Corcoran

Helicopter Ben Bernanke’s Federal Reserve is dropping trillions of fresh paper dollars on the world economy, the President of the United States is cracking jokes on late night comedy shows, his energy minister is threatening a trade war over carbon emissions, his treasury secretary is dithering over a banking reform program amid rising concerns over his competence and a monumentally dysfunctional U.S. Congress is launching another public jihad against corporations and bankers.

As an aghast world — from China to Chicago and Chihuahua — watches, the circus-like U.S. political system seems to be declining into near chaos. Through it all, stock and financial markets are paralyzed. The more the policy regime does, the worse the outlook gets. The multi-ringed spectacle raises a disturbing question in many minds: Is this the end of America?

The End of America is a Urban Legend people, get over yourselves, if your not inovative enough to see the future or to help nurture it to bad for you, maybe you would be better off in Europe or China, America is not or has not lost its status as the leader, we are only at the beginning, To say conditions in China or Europe are better than in America is ridiculous, China has to stimulate its economy to avoid civil unrest, Dubai is out of money and dont know how theyll finish these mega projects because the oil bubble bust, America is still rich in natural resources, innovative citizens with an amazing constitution, and the only thing more successful at reinventing its self than Madonna is our Free Market Economy which can reinvent itself over and over again when needed. We are not going to forget how to plant gardens, dig wells, build homes, or sew ever in the near future. So DONT LET THE FEAR MONGERS INFLUENCE YOU, ITS BEEN DONE ALL TROUGH HISTORY, THEIR IS NOTHING NEW UNDER THE SUN.
