Is Daily Beast Baring Conservative Fangs?

If there were any fears during its launch that Tina Brown's Daily Beast would too closely resemble The Huffington Post, they can be put to rest now. As leftist and liberal-shouty as Arianna prides her site on being, Brown's site has been slowly but surely moving to the center, and then the far ideological right. Currently, the political climate over at The Beast resembles The Drudge Report, but with the smile and sheen of America's Newsroom. Here are the three most egregious examples.

Christopher Buckley

The man who started it all. Getting ousted from his own lineage over at the National Review because he supported Obama, Buckley quickly jumped ship and made his grievances known on the newly formed Beast. But the liberal slant was only an illusion: Buckley is still a major selling point for Brown (he's on the front page near daily), yet his soundbites have become increasingly aggressive toward the administration.

Choice passage:

President Obama came to office proclaiming that he aims to solve problems, not hand them on to our children. Most presidents say that sort of thing. But now we are in very dire straits, and that being the case, he will be held to account. It’s your legacy, sir, and let’s not hear any more about “inheriting the crisis.” You asked for the job. Meanwhile, let us hope that his talent for mastering a sérieux financial crisis are not on a level with the Special Olympians of Wall Street, and Congress.

Meghan McCain

Truly baffling as to why a political blog would be hosting a dating column, except that it was written by Republican Senator (and loser candidate) John McCain's daughter. Next up, lamaze tips from Bristol Palin? Meghan went on to redeem herself — pulling an anti-Buckley if you will — by calling out Ann Coulter on her next blog and subsequently starting a war with all blond conservative pundits.

Choice Passage:

mccain13-400x1681

tucker_carlson
Tucker Carlson

The bow-tied CNN loser who was fired from Crossfire and now spends every waking moment plotting revenge on Jon Stewart for making him look the fool. Tina's given him a soapbox to unnecessarily rail against Stewart's recent altercation with Jim Cramer, as if getting yelled at by the host of The Daily Show makes you some sort of expert on financial policy.

Choice Passage:

The relationship between Stewart and the media is a marriage of the self-loathing and the self-loving: He insists their real news is fake, they insist his fake news is real. He doesn't take them seriously at all. They take him way too seriously. But nobody takes anybody as seriously as Jon Stewart takes himself … But it’s too late. The great comedian is gone, maybe forever. Jon Stewart is stuck in lecture mode.

What, is EVERY blogsite supposed to be skewed raging liberal? Didn't you guys get the message that McCain lost the election and conservatives are out of power? It worked, people! Rejoice!

I thought the daily beast was a project of maer roshan, former editor of radar magazine? Tina Brown might just be a figure head, along with celebrity bloggers, that gives the blog legitimacy.

In reality, they seem to be buying traffic as witnessed on alexa with spikes that resemble the kind when you buy traffic. What is the real message behind the figure heads and celebrity bloggers and what is the future like for this blog without them?

Their pr6 page rank is very impressive but who is really linking to them and actually reading their posts?
