The Most Important Movie You've Never Heard About

hillary-the-movie

Oh come now. You mean you haven't seen the 90-minute Hillary Clinton-bashing "documentary" (in the loosest sense of the word) from the Citizens United advocacy group? But it even hit the theaters during election season! Well, a limited release but still. Right now the film's creator/producer David Bossie is in the courtroom, haggling over whether or not his opus will be seen by on-demand cable subscribers. And the scary thing? It just might.

The issue isn't that this movie is a piece of biased smearing claiming to be an objective documentary (if that was the problem, none of Michael Moore's films would see the light of day). Rather, the problem is that the money trail of the film leads to some corporate contributions, which violates the federal McCain-Feingold law that regulates the financing of political campaigns. Says Ted Olson, who is representing Citizens United in this case:

"What is the matter with corporations? Are they inherently evil? Corporations — just as much as individuals — are entitled to protection under the First Amendment," Olson says.

Just an FYI for Olson: If your key defense is to ask America if corporations are "inherently evil" right now, you're kind of screwed. Call us again after we forget about the last 6 months.

I might watch it. Depends on who is playing Hillary.

"…most they say, hooray for our side…".

Gimmee a break, drew. In no way does this come under McCain-Feingold. The campaign's over.

Uh, Mark….a break you can have, but the movie was released even before Obama won the nomination.

What about a corporately funded book? Is there a difference in your mind between movies and books?

Fucking ridiculous law — hopefully it is struck down as unconstitutional.

So all those hateful, anti-Hillary 'liberals' can enjoy a hatchet job character assassination of a pro-choice, Democratic woman who was the first viable female presidential candidate in the U.S. - awesome! And by "awesome" I mean, F-you faux-liberals.
