As Cable Companies Go For Phones, Phone Companies Go For Cable

Now that Comcast owns our asses, it's up to phone providers to figure out a way to compete with services like Cablevision and Time Warner. And there's nothing like beating fire with fire: hence, the local Verizon station that plans to launch in NYC this summer. Why does Verizon need to compete with Cablevision? Consider it the wave of the future, since big networks and newspapers are also taking the hyper-local approach to television in hopes of generating more ad revenue than they're currently making in today's shitty market.

One upside? This means more low budget, local commercials that will be ripe for YouTube plucking in the upcoming months.
