Pirates Stop Being Quirky, Start Killing Civilians

All of the "argghh matey!" jokes can stop now: A British man and his wife were taken hostage off the coast of Thailand on their yacht, and in the first recent pirate attack on a private citizen, the man was killed.

British reports say three Burmese men boarded the $632,000 boat, attacked 64-year-old Malcolm Robertson with a hammer, and might have slit his throat before they threw his body into the sea on Monday.

His wife, Linda, was tied up but wriggled free and called for help after the pirates left the boat in a dinghy.

No news yet whether these were the same Somali pirates that have captured all those oil tankers in recent months, but either way, these guys just got way more serious.

Not likely the Exxon pirates, drew, as the coast of Thailand is, oh, a pretty good distance from from the Somali coast of Africa. Anyway, the Somali shitheads got nuthin' on these Indian Ocean predators. They've been pirating and killing innocents in the far eastern shiiping channels far longer. Cold-blooded, systematically treacherous, these guys know their business.
