So Barack Obama fielded some questions from the hooting peanut gallery White House press corps last evening, an exercise that resulted in a bunch of grandstanding from reporters, a lot of cautious salesmanship from the president and hundreds of thousands of terrified stares from American citizens, who are maybe at last realizing nobody knows what the fuck is going on. When are you getting your job back so you can feed your kids? Dunno! But at least we've now been apprised of why Obama wasn't more immediate with his outrage over AIG. That's important, isn't it?
Let's get right to it: CNN simpleton Ed Henry asking why the president and Tim Geithner didn't go public with their outrage immediately after hearing about the AIG bonuses. This is a good question, because it's normally very common for the leader of the free world to publicly spew vitriolic screeds at any hint of trouble. Oh where, oh where have all our hotheaded leaders gone (besides the Hague)?
Thank god Obama knows what a clown Henry is and was basically all, "You're a stupid clown. Sit down."
But look what happened later:
According to Henry and his usually mostly sane colleague Anderson Cooper, President Obama "dodged" the question about why he didn't get all shouty about the bonuses, even though the president's answer to the question – "I like to know what I'm talking about before I speak" – was as clear as day: dude did some research and made sure he got his facts straight. Remember how everyone was sick of cowboys shooting from the hip after the last eight years? Will you monsters never be sated?
Shut up, Ed Henry. And we normally like you AC, but you shut up, too.

Obama spoke (with a big new flatscreen. hope the teleprompters dont get jealous!)and the 'press' tried to act like they had balls to 'question' Obama… *yawn* wake me when this Nation is really in the craper because of "hope" and "change" then maybe some folks will ask/answer real questions
The media hasn't really asked questions to any president in years….maybe not since Nixon? Some people might say Clinton, but asking about some BJs hardly qualifies. Obama's teleprompters really don't bother me, I'd rather him sound a little articulate than fumble around. However, this press conference was completely pointless, it really didn't accomplish much.
Cord, do I sense some unhappiness with "the one, you've be waiting for" performance? your lousy press conference, you seem to think their was a mass cry out there for more Obama! Hardly, he needs to stay in his Office and WORK. and the new telepromter set-up was worth watching. the EU response to Obama is THE US IS HEADED TO ECONOMIC HELL. Try writing that post!
@Jen: Jen, the Teleprompters should bother you, because it reinforces the premise that Obama is an empty suit who is following a prepared script. Not the free-thinker-genius-messiah he blinded all those 99.6ers into voting for him.
Aha, but now instead of the tennis match head movements, now Obama has the 1000 yard stare to the big screen in the middle and back of the room as he reads his script. His eyes movements left to right gave him away last night.
I did not care for Clinton but at least he was knowledgeable enough to know what he was talking about versus having it prewritten for him. Good heavens, even the plagiarizer-in-chief, O-Biden can do better.
Take away Obama's teleprompter and he will probably wet himself.
DTOM - not fooled by Obama's reproba statua
@DONT TREAD ON ME: I don't think preparedness necessarily indicates lack of free thought, however, I think his overuse of teleprompters does show his lack of experience.
We cannot spend our way out of recession nor borrow out way out of debt.
Frontline on PBS last night.
Summary
========
Bush leads us into a 12 trillion dollar deficit.
Obama will nearly double the deficit to 23 trillion by end of his tenure.
(and that assumes "nothing bad" happens)
Prepare, ladies and gentlemen, for ten dollar loaves of bread.
Prepare senior citizens, for worthless pensions and empty stomachs.
We ain't seen nothing yet!
I'm beginning to think CNN isn't so bad after all.
The Ed Henry and Chuck Todd interchangeable Mr. Potato Heads will be this year's hot new toy.
@fanofgrendel: LOL! thats why Im stocking-up on 'ammo, Spam, booze, fuel, leather Mad Max outfits & gold bullion ("to make soup")
Shut up, Ed Henry. And we normally like you AC, but you shut up, too.
My sentiments exactly! And let me add another big shut up to John King and Dana Bash-ing-Obama. Funny how these reporters didn't have much to say when Bush and Cheney were shredding the Constitution to bits. I normally like Anderson Cooper, but the direction of his program and his general attitude has been to nitpick and parse everything the President does and says with a fervour they couldn't even begin to muster-up with the Bush Administration. CNN and AC360's ratings have tanked and I can't say I'm sad about it.
@fanofgrendel: a fan of Peter Schiff (Euro-Pacific Capital); aka "Dr. Doom"? :-)
Nate must live in Back Asswards land to think the media coddled the Bush admin.
@Kinky-Neo-Con: the worst think I can say about Dr. Doom, is he has be constantly right. Scary is the word for it.
and "be" be "been" and I be soaking my typing fingers in epson salts.
The media most certainly did "coddle" the Bush Administration in the run up to the Iraq War. What about the "coddling" that CNN right winger John King just did by conducting a kiss-ass interview with Dick Cheney?
@Nate: the dirty little secret is that the media didn't coddle the Bush administration because they liked Bush in the run up to the war. The did so BECAUSE THEY WANTED A WAR. They hadn't had a good one in ten years and Shock and Awe sounded like a lot of fun and good ratings — as did blowing Saddam's ass away.

(war always sounds cool until people start dying)
Media coddled Obama, because they just loved him.
Someone needs to give an ass-wupping to Obama, Pelosi, Reed and Tax-Challenged Geithner like MP Daniel Hannan gives it to the British PM:

@fanofgrendel: AMEN brother… so what are you stocking up on as 'society' collapses?
@Kinky-Neo-Con: I have a cabin in the middle of nowhere. It has it's own water well, natural gas well, and electric whole-house generator powered by natural gas. My only neighbor is a farmer with cattle and crops. I have plenty of guns and ammo. My dog can hunt. I have an inflatable doll with nine orifices.
@Kinky-Neo-Con:Marlboros, Crispy Creme Doughnuts, and Dunn Brothers Medium Roast!! What the hell, if you are going to go, might as well do it with the things you have been denying yourself of all those years, eh?
DTOM - over and out for the night
The President has just refused to rotate his head to the left for our cameraman. Worried Americans want to know: What is he hiding? Back to you, Anderson.
@fanofgrendel:
Huh, did you used to have a different screen name? I mean, you haven't asked us to hold onto our tampons yet, but I detect a familiar tone.
@TikiHead: I used to go by the name ferningravel.
Laughable coverage, or is it cover-upage? The prez is lost without seeing the question beforehand and/or having a teleprompter guide him.
He knew about the AIG bonuses before the bailout. His delayed and phoney outrage indicates dishonesty. His fumbling and angry answer to the question indicates hautiness and incompetence as well.
Then you have the nerve to blame the press…..and later in the article call a Senator a fascist. Is this how you protect your Obamessiah?
I'm pretty dissatisfied with the experts Obama is relying upon. It's good to be surrounded by intellectuals but at the end of the day you need people who can execute and use reason - not just strategy. Strategy is great when you are in a position of strength (or when you're a politician gambling on other people's money). When the nation is weak you need people who know what it's like to be poor, how to survive, and who will take action with laser precision. The cabinet is chock full of Ivy-league, silver-spooned academics but they are coming off as a group who lack a sense of urgency. While these intellectuals jockey for strength and political favor people children are going without meals, families are losing homes, and jobs continue to disappear. Washington, do something! I pray Obama has a smack-down meeting and puts his team on a concrete plan to address the immediate concerns of this nation.
