Yeah, this should turn out about as well as the CNN letting yahoos give reports about Steve Jobs' heart-attack. Actually, lets not knock it until we see what it's all about, shall we?

The Huffington Post Investigative Fund, headquartered in Washington, DC, will produce a broad range of investigative journalism created by both staff reporters and freelance writers, with a focus on working with the many experienced reporters and writers impacted by the economic contraction. The pieces will range from long-form investigations to short breaking news stories and will be presented in a variety of media — including text, audio and video — and will be free for any media outlet to publish simultaneously. The Huffington Post Investigative Fund will have an initial budget of $1.75 million.

See, staff writers doing investigative pieces? Sure. But "freelance" writers? Have you ever been to a Huffington Post live forum? I have, and let me tell you, the type of people who consider themselves part of Arianna's super team league of citizen journalists are the exact same people who step up to the microphone during a Q + A portion to rant for twenty minutes about how Andrew Jackson ruined America. Fer realz. Here's hoping the investigative journalism team put together by this fund will have a rigorous screening process.
