New York Times Adds Local Sections, Eliminates Local Sections

Wasn't it just the other day that the New York Times was hyping up its 'local neighborhoods' blog or something? Sure, The Local is basically just a poor attempt at marketing, but still, couldn't some of that money be used to prop up all these regional setions that the Times just decided to cut.

The New York Times plans to eliminate several weekly sections, including its stand-alone City Section, newsroom sources have told The Observer. There are also discussions to eliminate the regional weeklies in New Jersey, Long Island, Westchester and Connecticut, and the Friday Escapes section as well, a source said.

Fair enough, no one cares about New Jersey, but slicing the entire City Section while starting up a Fort Greene-based blog? No wonder these guys hold on to their money worse than a Florida retirement fund invested in Madoff LLC.
