Why Mexico Is So Loco

Confused as to why all eyes are suddenly on Mexico when, for years, everyone was content to let the drug wars rage on? Like Hillary Clinton, we're here to help.

The short answer is because things have gotten much, much worse than they've ever been before. Since January 2008, almost 7,000 people in Mexico have been murdered in connection to the drug wars. In some towns, anarchy is the name of the game, as law enforcement has been picked off either through bribery or killing. Furthermore, the violence has started spilling into parts of America, specifically Arizona and Texas. For many it's become too much to bear.

The long answer is that it's your fault, junkie, and also the illegal immigrants' fault.

First, cocaine use, methamphetamine use and marijuana use are all on the rise in America, and the Mexican cartels have their hands in all three. They're getting richer as you're getting higher, and with that money comes more guns, more grenades and the motivation to do anything to maintain their billion-dollar empires, even if that means killing cops and putting guns in babies' mouths.

Next, yes, the Mexican drug gangs are full of brutal thugs, but the past few months should have proven to you that just because you're a thug doesn't mean you can't be a businessman, too. And like any good businessman, the drug kingpins have diversified, making their way into the immigrant trafficking racket. Doesn't sound very lucrative? Wrong. While it may not be as glamorous as drug dealing, authorities estimate that immigrant smuggling through Arizona alone grossed the cartels around $2 billion last year. And, once again, more money means more weapons, more trained cartel security teams and, like Biggie said, more problems.

Until drugs are legalized, and Obama has already promised that that won't happen on his watch, if you want to do your part to stop the violence, stop doing drugs and stop going to places employing illegal immigrants. Good luck with that.

maybe we could meet in the middle on that, perhaps drug addicts would enjoy living in Mexico with the drug dealers? Might this work?

Great idea Rhonda…people could have their fix 24/7 and leave this country to those of us who can function without mind altering drugs.

A Las Vegas type place, where dealers and users can be safe and not jeopardize the rest of us.

Our drug policies are loco! The tobacco, alcohol and prescription drug gangs cause more death annually than all illicit drugs.

Current drug policy disregards science and punishes families of citizens, confiscating their property for making a safer health choice in a social or medicinal drug; that is policy bordering on insanity.

Immorality is what is bringing down decent countries.

And who do we have to look up to?

Bill Clinton, George Bush, Barry Sotero.

No wonder this world is a mess.

Blame America first! Yep, that is always what the Mexicans (and other cowards afraid to face the truth) do. FYI, the pusher always comes before the addict, don't you know? And, the Mexicans use the excuse that we "stole" most of Mexico from them (after they stole it from the Spanish and the Indians) and hooking Gabachos on drugs is their way of paying us back. So, stop blaming American victims for Mexican drug pushing. If all illegal drugs disappeared tomorrow, the Mexicans would find something else to smuggle. After Prohibition ended, they smuggled vegetable wax — legal in the US, illegal to extract in and "export" from Mexico. Smuggling is a big part of their culture. Heck, they are even smuggling oil. Is oil illegal? No, but it is profitable if you steal it first before you sell it. That is the Mexican way — commit a crime and blame it on the Gabacho!

@Diane: Bill Clinton and George Bush were both involved in cocaine smuggling in the 1980's. Young Barry simply inhaled. I'd say that Bill and George committed the bigger crime and they put users in prison when they were both governors adding hypocrasy to their criminality. Our country is in the current shape because we forget our history. Obviously, you all have forgotten dirty little airport in Mena. Arkansas. Not to mention the drug-dealer Barry Seal's airplane George loved to fly while governor of Texas. Do your homework people! Ignorance is not bliss!

So we legalize drugs and then what? It's easy to say that but HOW do you propose to enact it? Once drugs are legalized, can anyone set up a lab in their house? Do they have to get a license by taking some 12 hour course on proper preparation and distribution? Is it going to be one set price or competitive pricing? Can anyone create a new drug and patent it or are pharmecutical companies going to be the only ones allowed to manufacture the drugs and what about taxes?
I'm sure there is even more to consider, because with legalization comes legislation of rules and laws, penalities and fees for violations of varying degrees and still enforcment people to make sure it's followed.

And I feel that even with legalization of drugs there still will be some cheap underground crap still being created on the street by someone with no license to sell or who doesn't want to pay the taxes, because we all know the government would tax this higher then cigarettes. There's more to legalization than just medical marijuana.
