Glenn Beck, Doomsday Carnival Barker

beck01
Rupert Murdoch and Roger Ailes knew that what they were creating with Fox News was essentially tabloids on television. To attract the largest demographic, it must appeal to the lowest common denominator of audiences. That means a lot of shouting, yelling…and yes, even crying. See, as MSNBC go wise to the Bill O'Reilly technique and hired their own screaming headcases, Fox took from CNN something that no other station has: A giant, weeping baby-man that is half televangelist and half schizophrenic with paranoid delusions of government conspiracy that would have him locked up in Bellevue if he ever left the newsroom.

Besides this being a funny Colbert clip and all, just watching all those Beck monologues strung together is terrifying. How did someone this emotionally unstable get on air, let alone attract a giant cult following? He cried his very first episode! What other news program is constant tears acceptable on? And if progressives want to beat fire with fire, does that mean someone over at NBC will have to stop taking their blood pressure medication? *cough*ChrisMathews*cough*

i know you're going to get the usual proclamations of how high glenn beck's viewership is, therefore he must be genius….but the man is NUTS!

Here's another great Glenn Beck video. Montage of him doing his muppet voice:

He gets viewership in a small group of Americans. Is he king in that demographic? Sure. That does not mean he is number one of all channels, network or cable. What I don't get is why Jossip never mentions the fact that this guy has had more plastic surgery than Demi Moore and Madonna combined. Chin implant anyone? Why do you think his skin is so pink all the time. Guess dude took a page from Katherine Zeta Jones' book and gets his chemical peels on a regular basis. makes me think he may be a little swishy.

Fear caused by Glenn's success brings out the attack dogs. Beck keeps on rolling.

@Jen: Look around, the montages are everywhere. From MSNBC, to Letterman, to Colbert, all guns are trained on Beck. They are firing too early though. He is not even close to peaking, and the mockery gun, once fired, becomes less powerful.

i don't think anyone wants to take beck down, he's just easy to make fun of because he's…funny. you can't be as dramatic as he is and not be mocked. he has that same condescending jabber as rush, hannity, o'rielly and olbermann (that you are an idiot if you don't believe what he thinks) but i think he's more entertaining and less annoying. maybe because of the crying and eye-rolls? or maybe because he doesn't feel the need to shout his opinions? anyway, they are all best in small snippets on youtube.

@Erma: Beck has had plastic surgery? Really? If that's true why didn't they suck the fat out of those chins and that body?
