Protests Get Violent in London (PHOTOS)

SPL90584_003

This was sort of unavoidable. The G20 protests in the streets of London, which began as just a bunch of rich kids standing around in black American Apparel hoodies, have reached shitshow status, with bloody policer confrontations, shattered storefronts and plenty of witty graffiti.

In the end, rich people are still rich, the Summit continues and a bunch of Marxists have some great new stories. You're foolish to expect change.

"Dissent protects Democracy"…The nightly news reported on the demonstrations and hopefully let a few uninformed realize that there is something inherent in Capitalism that exploits workers and the middle class. I would not spend my time doing this, had I been in London but for those that are there, I believe there is something selfless about speaking up for the masses who have no voice in the G20.

@maria: Good points. I thoroughly love capitalism, but I firmly believe workers need protection from the unmitigated greed that accompanies it. Hell, I KNOW they do. Unions would never have been necessary had the corporations not treated workers like disposable towel wipes. Corporations would be okay with working children to the bone if they could get away with it.

I'm self-employed and I'm happy that way. Seems to me people need those evil corporations otherwise they don't have a job!

My Dad was a teamster, the corporation went out of business with men 8 days to 6 months to retirement, what did the union do—nothing.

@Rhonda: Unions seem to have fallen victim to the same greed and lack of concern for workers that they claim to protect employees from. That was a shitty way to treat their own members. Your poor dad must have been furious and really let down.

@getreal: I say "Edwards" so you have to say "Cheney"? Maybe you just think you have to defend every Democrat, even a guy who cheats on his cancer stricken wife?

Also I'm beginning to think you are just plain ignorant on most things. Dick Cheney didn't put the Patriot Act into force by executive order. It was a law passed by Congress.
69% of the House Democrats and 96% of Democratic Senators voted FOR the first PATRIOT Act. 77% of Democratic Senators voted for the Re-Authorization.

@bam-a-lam: I am kind of surprised that someone would let the rantings of a commenter on a gossip website change their political POV. Not saying one way is right or wrong, but it is strange.

@Jen: Jen, Getreal, in this case, is a compilation of all that is wrong with the entire scene. The Democratic Party as represented by this particular reference is represented in a very ugly light. Ultra liberalism is no friend to anyone and gets off on its own voice more than anything else, exactly like utra conservatism. It's the same thing. I changed my voter status 3 weeks ago, and I'm more than ever glad I did.

@Jen: at one point I thought GetReal had something to offer in terms of some sensitivities, but she veered away to become a lazy, repetitive bore. And a cheap one at that, nitpicking literal references to discredit a fellow commenter at the expense of logic and fairness.

Previous "discussions" have revealed that GetReal considers any mention of the fight for civil rights and the resulting freedoms as "trite" nonsense that has been pretty much talked to death. I find that offensive on so many levels that it makes me somewhat sick. It pretty much killed any consideration on my end.

We're already taxed more than damn near any other state and our level of poverty, as a state, is extreme. I've just had it. All the jibber jabber in the world doesn't come close to reality.

My family was always a mix of both. We grew up knowing how to have intelligent conversations about the good and bad of BOTH parties, and we listened to each other because we loved each other and cared. It's hard to me to understand why more people can't do the same. ESPEICALLY liberals, who claim to give a damn about other people.

I think the point that this thread, and Jossip, is missing is that a lot of these protestors weren't kids. They were people that had been out of work for such a long time that they were forced on welfare, or they were kids that were sick and tired of seeing their parents suffering with the global unemployment problem.

Quite frankly, I am getting a little sick and tired of all this bullshit talk about "It's there own fault they are out of work." Did you know that a West Virginia politician wants mandatory drug testing before someone can recieve unemployment benifits? This is not only a costly proposition, but adding insult to injury for those people that just lost their jobs. Geuss what? He is not alone. This asshole is so out of touch that he is more concerned about the drug problem than his own fellow Americans that are out of work and need the monetary resources THEY PAID INTO while employed.

Geuss what kids? If this economy gets worse and more people lose thier jobs and you have shitbags like the aforementioned with their tyrannical solutions you are going to get the mass protesting like you see in those pictures posted above. Oh, and since FANOFGRENDEL is so fucking smart have him explain to you how the Russian Revolution started, because that is close to the same goddam recipe that is cooking the same fucking stew that is brewing right here in the U.S.

Those people are pissed off about being forgotten by a government they financially support. It's real goddamm easy to armchair protest and get all PC about peace, when you arn't in the trenches yourself.

@Just Saying: the more important issue is how Russian Revolution ended, be careful when playing with matches.

And it might not be a bad idea to have drug testing before handing out welfare checks. That way maybe my tax money could be spent on food for the kids rather than junk to support somebody's habit.

You realize they aren't placing any restrictions on alcoholic welfare recipients, so I take it you don't mind our precious tax dollars supporting them.
