Paper Moon Not So Heartwarming in Real Life

A man hold up a convenience store with his daughter in tow, waving a gun and saying he's doing it to provide for his little girl. Con artist or is this really what we've come to?

Verdict? We're not quite at Cormac McCarthy's post-apocalyptic The Road levels yet, and seeing as how his daughter has been found but the man hasn't (so what, he just left her somewhere to escape the cops?) we're going less with the sympathy vote and saying this guy is just exploiting his children to get money. Hey, maybe he and Dina Lohan could meet.

Wow. This reminds of homeless people that use dogs for sympathy. Is it even his kid? Is this what he fought for custody for?

A gun? Your child? (and child) I don't think so.

Look how scared the little girl looks. I can't wait till the police catch this guy and take that kid.

About a year ago, I had a well-dressed white woman in a Cadilac stop at my house with her daughter. I had never seen her in the neighborhood before. She tells me how sick her daughter is and the doctor had given her prescriptions but she did not have the money to fill them. Who knows how many people had given her money, but doctors will give you professional samples if you have no money. Weeks later I saw her picture in the paper on a wide variety of charges. People really are so generous, when they see a kid, they want to help, they don't even think logically

@Rhonda: There is a fine line between generosity, gullibility and naiveté.
