There's just something about Barack Obama and that dark skin of his. From Turkey to Tampa Bay, everyone wants their shot at looking like Obama, and in one of the most historically offensive ways possible. Is imitation always the sincerest form of flattery?
Here's Florida talk radio host Mark Larsen the day after Obama was elected. During this particular broadcast, Larsen also described a line of black voters as "looking like they were waiting for food at a BBQ joint." Funny!

okay, japan you already know has a strange sense of humor (they gave us the 'shave the baby' doll) so they get a pass on being clueless. But a RADIO personality went to all that trouble? That's just pathetic.
Don't forget, even well-meaning liberals don't get a pass.
are the coolest. just the way it is.
anybody want to disagree?

Do ya feel lucky, punk?
At this point in history in our country people know that black face has a certain effect the only reason to don it is to personally wound or disturb people who have done you no harm (It's never bothered me personally people who do it look stupid so their outside matches their inside which I like). That being said they have a first amendment right to look as stupid and ignorant as they want. An exception in my opinion was Ted Danson who donned blackface for a roast of his then girlfriend Whoopi Goldberg's roast. A roast for those of you not in the entertainment industry or a fan of comedy is when a group of people get together and pay tribute to a friend by using the most vile, offensive, and objectionable words and acts. Clearly Ted danson was using the blackface to make a statement about racism only a moron would actually believe he meant to insult his girlfriend and the millions of Americans who look like her.
I sure am glad we have Getreal here to tell us, the people not in the entertainment business, what a roast is! Professor Getreal, we are indebted to you! I remember the Ted Danson blackface was quite a fiasco, and according to Prof Getreal a major portion of this country were morons because from my memory is was quite a big deal.
@Rhonda: Well, that explains it. I watched a couple "roasts" on the tee-vee that one time, back in band camp, and I just could not get the concept. NOW I KNOW. Duh. That's what happens when you're not in the entertainment industry. You just don't get it.
@Rhonda: I've heard that technically both Dean Martin and Don Rickles should attend what GetReal calls roasts, but I believe one of them is dead.
@fanofgrendel: When somebody yells "ROAST" around here it means there's a pig in the ground and a whole lotta beer. So, do they serve roast pig at these fancy Hollywood type roasts?
@Rhonda: Not to mention the alarming news that there are "millions of Americans" who look like Whoopi Goldberg. If that's true, then how do we know the REAL Whoopi when we see her?
@bam-a-lam: ask her if she served Romulan Ale at the bar on the Enterprise. If she knows the answer, it's the real Whoopi.
Real Whoopi:
Whoopi is one of my favorite liberals. She is really a very nice, and surprisingly shy person.
@fanofgrendel: You old softie.
Good Morning, Fan and Bam,
Bam, I like your definition of ROAST. What would we do without Getreal explaining these complicated concepts to us. Just think Fan, how many years you spent being confused, Prof Getreal to the rescue:)
I watched a bunch of those old roasts on U tube with Dean Martin, Frank Sinatra, etc. They were really funny without being really filty dirty.
@Rhonda: They were funny, weren't they? How did things go from talented funny to f**k bomb "funny"? Oh, that's right, it was TALENT.
Bam,
Talent, Getreal, please explain that concept! :) sorry, Bam, Getreal is the entertainment expert on this site! :)
Actually the Friars club would never let them broadcast the dirty parts there are however bootleg copies available of Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra especially who apparently told a hell of a dick joke. Roasts have always been dirty it is a friar tradition because of changing social mores what was once taboo (foul language and dirty jokes) is now acceptable. Please revel in sarcasm you look so silly to many people who work in the entertainment industry who read this site. Pontificating on roasts when you clearly don't know what you are talking about.
@Rhonda: "Pontificating" on roasts? BWAHAHAHAAA!! Truly, I am amused.
@Rhonda: The ENTIRE ENTERTAINMENT Industry is laughing at us. I'm so…thrilled?
@bam-a-lam: I'm so excited. Maybe I can get a job with my FANOFGRENDEL act: a little song, a little dance, a little seltzer in your pants!
Don't you just love hicks? They are funny.
@getreal: Gollie, Jethro, let's go swimmin' in the cement pond.
@fanofgrendel: Aw, hell yeah. A big, fat REBEL YELL! I always wondered what was meant by the term 'liberal elites' since I'm a liberal and hardly elite, but after reading the crap Getreal posts, I understand completely where the objection to liberals in general comes from. Someday those little elite factions who live in rainbow & unicorn land will learn that they managed to do more harm to their own cause than just a little bit. She has stated that she never personally has experienced racism, but that hasn't stopped her bullshit posts where you'd think she had first hand knowledge of it; she has issues with older people, which I believe is called age discrimination, or ageism, and a complete disregard for those who came before her and put their lives on the line for civil rights (contemptible disrepect); she believes anyone who doesn't live in her little bubble of the universe is a total hick; and, in short, is a fraud. Yeah, Getreal, you really rock. Phony ass little chicken shit.
@fanofgrendel: Sorry, Fan, I got sidetracked. I suggest you put on your best top hat and get to tapping. The ENTIRE ENTERTAINMENT INDUSTRY is watching, right now. GetReal said so, and she obviously has waaay big contacts there.
I will go on ignoring the comments of people who always try to crow bar racism into any and every discussion. I think blackface is silly it makes the person donning it look silly and like they are deliberately trying to hurt feelings and insult. That being said people have a first amendment right to express themselves as long as they don't infringe on others. I say anyone who likes blackface have at it it says more about you than what you are trying to parody. We all have different values I was taught that I have a certain responsibility in my conduct and my words a lot people were. That is why I do not feel like the need to have profanity laced temper tantrums I don't think that is elite per se just good old fashioned home training. If someone is so frustrated that I don't want to dialogue with them that they feel the need to call me a chicken shit it is time to get a therapist and a life or don't. I don't know you or care to if that makes you mad who cares. Dialogue with the people who want to dialogue with you instead of chasing around posters who don't it is creepy.
Actually, I am not all that upset about this guy's racist behavior. Similar to Lee Atwater (and all of those just like him) this idiot on the radio will soon die from a painful bout of brain, prostate or skin cancer–God's great equalizers for mean-ass, racist, white men.
@getreal: You disgust me to no end. You have no inkling what people gave up so women, minorities, and the disabled would have an easier time of it. They got in the streets and shed blood - they didn't sit at computers typing pompous little sermons. You would never have the bravery or commitment to do such a thing. You weren't present for the historic desegregation of public schools, I was. It was fascinating and we all liked each other here in this "hick" town, which is more than I can say for what your attitude says about you. Go call the White House and see if they need yet another so-called liberal. I'm sure they'll be eager to hear from you. As if.
I will say that the Japanese example was a bit unfair as it has no negative connotation in Japan and Japanese people are huge consumers of American culture in general and hip-hop culture specifically. The last time I was in Tokyo I was surprised to hear rap music playing in department stores and elevators like musak. I think blackface in our culture is just a great identifier of people who have some serious issues and baggage around race but as this thread shows they usually announce themselves anyway.
