Fired Nerds Coming for NYC's DJ Gigs

Hey, New York City DJs! We know you've spent years cultivating a dope record collection, brainstorming seamless mixes and making as many friends in nightlife as possible, and that's good for you. Unfortunately, a new day is upon us, and your time is OVER! The recession is here, fools, and formerly content corporate types are coming for your livelihoods. Scratch battle!

In today's obligatory Times trend piece, "Instead of Falling Into a Rut, Busting Out a New Groove," we learn that enrollment at New York's many accredited DJ schools is up in a major way since the financial crisis hit, mostly because rich middle managers who never followed their dreams before are doing so now, severance packages in hand, moments before the world explodes. We'll take entitlement for five hundred, Alex.

Hell, some of these people haven't even been fired yet, they just like slumming it. Marcia Levine, a goddamn TV executive who's still got a job, is one of these people.

“I’m so excited,” said Ms. Levine, who said she used to frequent Studio 54. “I don’t know what I’m getting paid, but just to know that I’ll be getting some form of payment to do something I really love is a great start.”

It's never too late for you, Ms. Levine—you're rich!
