The U.S. Navy began negotiations yesterday with the Somali pirates holding American Captain Richard Phillips hostage on a lifeboat in the Indian Ocean. Reports say U.S. Naval warship the Bainbridge arrived on the scene before dawn with a full crew intended to safely reclaim the captain.

New information says that Phillips gave himself up as a hostage for the sake of his crew.

When this current hostage situation began, there was a comment from some state department source that there was no connection with the pirates activities in the region and Al Quaeda.

I personally think we're fooling ourselves if we don't think the terrorist organizations have not jumpoed on the money train, or boat, if you will.

Al Qaeda's been operating in Somalia since the early 90's, so as Jim said, it wouldn't be surprising at all if they are profiting from the piracy.
