The American captain held hostage by four Somali pirates made a desperate escape attempt Friday but was recaptured, and officials said other pirates sought to reinforce their colleagues by sailing hijacked ships with other captives aboard to the scene of the standoff.
A Somali in contact with a pirate leader said the captors want a ransom and are ready to kill the hostage, Capt. Richard Phillips, if attacked.
Perhaps the pirates should rethink this "kill him" plan, what with an entire American warship and its crew just feet away, raring to say they literally battled — and easily defeated — pirates.

@1773</a To clarify: Somalia the country is not responsible for piracy. Somalia is a war torn country, wtih warlords running the whole shebang. Piracy is NOT terrorism.
Oh I completely understand that Somalia has no functioning goverment to speak of, however it is where these pirates hail from.
This situation is very similar to the one that President Jefferson had to face in the early 1800's.
@1773: Who would have thought that piracy, of all things, would emerge as such a successful endeavor in the 21st century? They certainly aren't lacking in cojones.
The US should just steam on in and wipe out the coast, end of problem.
