Website Hopes to Displace Craigslist Casual Encounters As "Creepiest Shit Ever"

Ugh, did we all really need to read 7 pages about SeekingArrangement.com in today's Times? Blurgh, we all know that sugar daddies and sugar "babies" exist (like that terminology isn't creepy enough, did the Times have to legitimize it?), but please don't dress the site up in 1,000 word essay and call it sociology. Just because prostitution happens on the web and we call it something doesn't mean we can put lipstick on a pig or whatever.

About 30 percent of arrangements on the site involve the daddy paying an “allowance,” usually a thousand or two a month, though the site claims some reach $10,000. The rest provide the baby with incidental cash, shopping sprees, gifts, travel or the fleeting illusion that theirs is a high-end, easy life. “I get flown to whatever city I want,” wrote a North Carolina college student, who goes by the name gurlnextdoor on the site’s blog, a mix between an online support group and a kaffeeklatsch. “He pays for it, takes me shopping, we talk, laugh, go out to eat and do whatever we want to do for our days together. . . . I don’t bring up mundane problems about my home life, and he does the same. . . . If I wanted someone to talk to about my life problems, I’d get a boyfriend or a therapist.”

Please let this site turn out to be a joke that the Times fell for, like the DABA girls.

@Jimbo: You want to find a woman to pretend to like you so she can get money from you? They are called prostitutes. What a lofty goal.If you have to bribe someone with money to f*ck you maybe you should make some changes in your life.

More power to them. If I had been smarter when I was in college I would have done something similar. I mean, these guys want companionship, in addition to sex. It seems pretty clear from the article that sex is not the only thing that they're seeking. In fact, in one of the examples the two never even met! He just wanted to pay for her and help her in her studies and send romantic letters to her.

Now I assume that isn't the norm, but still. And really, what's wrong with prostitution? This country's two faced hypocrisy is stunning sometimes.
