It's out of Iraq and in to Iran we go! That is, at least if Israeli President Shimon Peres has anything to say about it. In an unusually forward speech yesterday, Peres said that if Barack Obama's overtures fail to calm Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is notoriously anti-Israel, Israel "will strike [Iran]."
That, of course, would be a goddamn disaster, especially because Peres openly admits that Israel would need America's support in a war with Iran: "We certainly cannot go it alone, without the US, and we definitely can't go against the US. This would be unnecessary."
Ahmadinejad has yet to respond to Shimon, but something tells us he'll not have anything nice to say. A bit of a bad trip, that one.

@bam-a-lam: I'm confused. You think it's wrong for a sovereign nation to (finally) verbally respond to the years of verbal and physical threats from a rogue state? What other nation would allow another nation to continually train and financially support militant groups like Hamas and Hezballah that threaten its existence? I'm dumbfounded.

The problem is Peres basically declared war on Iran and then said "oh shoot, we can't do that by ourselves…US-can you help us? we know you are at war with 2 other nations right now, but we really need a hand". I know the Protocols of the Elders of Zion is a page turner, but if you can just put the book down for a second I'll explain. My friends, what Israel means by American support is American permission. Israel will do the dirty work itself. Israel had American support to bomb the nuclear facility in Syria and had American support to bomb the caravans of weapons in Sudan. Contrary to popular (anti-semetic) belief, Israel never has anyone do its dirty work for it. Israel as a nation (I am not talking about specific politicians) advised the US against the war in Iraq and continually stressed to the Americans that the true threat was Iran.

Israel will do whatever it takes to protect herself from any threat. Just like during Gulf War 1 when Israel took out Iraq's nuclear reactor BEFORE it was on line they did not ask permission beforehand. Israel has endured countless homicide bombing attacks and threats of total extinction (it seems) forever. My money is on Israel.
