Despite Glenn Beck's Support, Texas Will Never Secede

hicks_dog

Say what you will about the massive, flat, vermin-ridden rodeo land that is the state of Texas, but a new poll suggests Texans themselves might not be as nutty as you think. According to Rasmussen Reports, only 18 percent of Texas voters would ever choose to secede from the United States, while a full 75 percent would do no such thing, knowing full well that Texas needs, y'know, roads and police and THE NFL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thankfully, this information exposes the following clip of Glenn Beck praising a howling bunch of Texas secessionists on Wednesday for what it is: a demagogue riling up a mob obsessing over a pipe dream. Our favorite part is when the secessionists begin chanting "USA!" Irony is also not big in Texas, apparently.

wasn't secession from the union sort of considered treasonous back in the day?

in any case, sure, let them secede. let's see how well they do with no federal funding for anything. I'm sure they'd change their tune when they didn't have federal border patrol guarding their borders against the influx of illegals.

I still can't understand how people from other parts of the country have this outdated idea of Texas being this "vermin ridden rodea." It reminds me of the stories my mom used to tell me of living in China in the 60's and having people ask her how difficult it was to live in Texas with all the indians and if it was hard to ride a horse while wearing such a large hat. Apparently people believed that Texas was one massive John Wayne western.

Also, I've never walked in a city or town in Texas and had a rat cross my path. New York? All the time. Just sayin…

funny, that "it's worth fighting for" excuse didn't hold up well with your bush-supporting cohorts.

I'll repeat what they repeated.

"if you don't like it, you can leave"

but make up your mind…are you "stuck" in a bad marriage, or is it worth fighting for?

heroes? there aren't many true heroes nowadays. The firefighters and cops who were on the scene for 9/11, the brave men and women who fight in our armed forces, "Sully", the pilot who landed the plane in the Hudson, the SEALS who killed the snipers…

so, who are your heroes? Timothy McVeigh? David Koresh? no, wait, I've got it. Randy Weaver.

@stewie: At least Bush never apologized for being a superpower. Aside from the Bush Bash/Obama Bash back and forth Obama is not uniting this country with his massive spending plans. $13/month stimulus cannot create 500,000 new jobs, let alone make a difference being put back into the economy. People WILL pay taxes for infrastructure, schools, LIMITED government, some social programs, and defense. They are balking at excessive spending and 250,000 people are being heard around the nation. The liberal attack machine is in full force and the attacks are backfiring. No one arrested, no one hurt, no damage to property. Reasonable people protesting in a democratic way. The Lame Stream Media doesn't how to deal with this dissent.

don't know what bush not apologizing has to do with this post, but…um…OK, sure. (I've noticed you sometimes have a hard time staying on topic, you might want to work on that.)

And if you read what I wrote, you'd see I'm not attacking the protesters. I never did. In fact, I didn't really attack anyone, just threw some of the bush supporters' words back atcha. Rhonda was lamenting that the folks in TX "still have a choice". I was simply pointing out that she also has a choice.

"reasonable people protesting in a democratic way." and I'm all for it. but, sorry to say, your "side" wasn't.

people protesting in a democratic way against the war? they were deemed "unpatriotic" by both the bush admin, and the bush supporters. told to "love it or leave it", etc… "you're either with us or against us"…not really words that encourage dissent.

Well this is rich. Nothing happened in the past 8 years to rile people up enough to get out and demand action like the Tea Bagging Party and now a Republican led movement for Texas to secede, over taxes of all things. Violations of civil rights - nothing, cause if you're not doing anything wrong you shouldn't object. Going to war base on lies and manipulation - nothing but increased patriotism. Government urged Americans to go out and SHOP (take on more debt) when the nation went to war and now we have a shattered economy; anyone who raised questions about the sanity of these actions was likely to land on a no-fly list, and dubbed unpatriotic no matter what.

Now here we are left in the ruins of the bad decisions made then, and people are going to really "take on the system, man"? Over TAXES? I think all the unemployment and the dire financial crisis has left a lot of people with incredible frustration and they are willing to use the first good sounding excuse to stage something so they can air their gripes. The signs present would back that up. While I'm glad people are noticing things and paying attention these days, it would have been great if it had not taken a direct hit to their pocketbooks to get them to give a damn.

yea let's add more debt, just to make it fair. That sounds reasonable! Obama has spent in just over 80 days more than presidents 1-43 put together, times up. 2010 is just around the corner and we will see, Republican's are gonna turn out in mass to put other republicans out of Work, but we know the democrats will re-elect the same old bozo's. Pelosi, Reid, Frank, Dodd may lose his seat, but the rest will get re-elected and no one has done more to harm this country than Pelosi, Reid and Frank.

@stewie: Clinton was president and it was on his watch that his AG killed Koresh. Are you implying that Clinton didn't give the order to take out the compound? I don't believe that for a minute. Funny though how come the classified papers on this incident have not been declassified? Do we really know what transpired in the compound or the timeline?
When was a protest against the war during the previous 8 years mocked by the media? When did Bush ever say anything to the effect "Love it or leave it"? The reference "Either your with us or against us" is right when dealing with terrorists who want to kill us. I notice that you take issue with my comments so just don't respond back to me just ignore my opinions. This is a blog for people to post comments right? WTF?

clinton, reno…does it matter who gave the order for the raid? bottom line…the Branch Davidians killed 4 federal agents, and they set the fires that led to their deaths. this, however, is irrelevant to the topic at hand. I was simply making a correlation to the idea of secession. Rhonda (and you, apparently) like the idea of the people of Texas talking about secession from the US. she asked who my heroes are and made some (snide, sarcastic) guesses. I then responded, and made some snide, sarcastic guesses as to who HER heroes are.

and I never said the anti-war protests were mocked by the media. (except maybe Fox News.) again, stay on topic. I also never said that bush said, verbatim, "love it or leave it". if you'll read again, I said that the anti-war protesters were deemed "unpatriotic" by "the bush administration" and the "bush supporters". "love it or leave it" was used as an example of some of the things I personally heard.

I've seen other posters on here comment on how you have trouble reading for comprehension. you need to learn to do that, and to stop projecting what you THINK people said onto what they actually said.

I didn't bring up Koresh you did. As far as comprehension goes I fully comprehend this website and it's liberal slant and its regular posters. The tea party protests AND the Texas secession talk WAS mocked in the media sorry if my references to current events in the news escapes you. I post on this website because I want to. Some of what I read is accurate, some is propaganda, some is crazy. I don't bash people outright UNLESS they attack me first. What I post is what I believe just like you do. I value the truth and question what is suspicious. Again if you don't like my opinions don't respond to me. Your opinion is of no value to me I just never walk away from an attack on me that's all.

geez, you really need to take a valium, ILoveAmerica.

I never said you weren't commenting on my posts. (where did THAT come from?!) I fully realize you were, which is why I responded to YOU, commenting on my posts. see how that works?

yeah, I got smart with Rhonda, as she got smart with me. is it your job to defend people who can readily defend themselves? or is she not able? did she ask you to interject? I don't really care if you do, I got no problem responding to her directly, or to you directly. and I'm aware that I brought up Koresh. and I also told you WHY I brought up Koresh. Don't deflect your ignorance on the subject with a defense of "you brought it up". again, I never claimed otherwise.

and I also never told you to stop commenting here. if you want to continue to project things that you THINK people said, and put words in other posters mouths, all the time making yourself look foolish, by all means, go right ahead. you value the truth? laughable, at best. and you should take your own advice. if you don't like my opinions, don't respond to me. as you yourself said (you remember THIS, don't you?) "You got smart with Rhonda and I intejected." don't like my opinions? don't respond to me. for someone who says my opinion is of no value, you sure get your panties in a bunch over it.

my advice to you? look to get some help in commenting on what people ACTUALLY WROTE, not on what you twisted their words to say.
