We're hearing five staffers were just fired today from Life & Style, the Bauer tabloid that isn't In Touch. Two designers and three from the fashion department were let go, as ordered by owner Hubert Boehle. It's just the normal course of publishing, says an insider, and not reason to assume the sky is falling (i.e. that L&S is shutting down, as some have assumed). Interestingly, since Dan Wakeford took over as editor a few weeks ago, newsstand sales have improved from Donna Armstrong's 350,000 average to 550,000.
I worked with Donna Armstrong (who is a wonderful editor!) and I am upset that the new editor, Dan Wakeford, is lying about his circulation being higher than hers when, in fact, the last few issues are in the 300,000 range. And as bad as this is, morale at Life and Style is even lower than their figures, as people expect it to close any day now that Dan Wakeford is there!
Dan doesn't care about the truth.
Once again he's proved his amateur status - today Simon Cowell and ex-gf Terri Seymour both denied he gave her a $9 million goodbye gift as claimed by Life & Style, including a Beverly Hills home. Any responsible, intelligent editor would have seen this was ludicrous. The story came from one of Dan's pitiful "sources"….any idiot could have checked that she bought the house in March this year. No one should believe a word this "guy" prints.
Actually I STILL work at Life & Style (sorry Truth Teller), have no bone to pick or axe to grind and cannot stress how much better things have gotten now that Dan is here. Everyone can agree that Donna was about as sweet as they come but she was also totally spacey and completely disorganized. Dan has a solid news sense, instills trust and confidence in the editors and, most importantly, keeps things running on schedule. Everyone was (and remains) relieved that he's here.
Yep, what Daisy says is exactly right. Everyone's very happy to have Dan in charge, and the mag has improved (in sales and quality) since he's taken over.
"The mag has improved in quality"…..Duke, love your sense of humor.
Dan used to be my boss - he was so fantastic. he's greatly missed.
