50 Cent Fired in an Obamanation

The G Funk Era may finally be coming to a close. Apparently, in an Obamanation, the powers that be believe it's no longer cool to prostitute women, sell drugs and kill. What have we become?

Sadly, this shift to the high road has put one of the nation's most beloved gangsters temporarily out of work. MTV has decided to ax 50 Cent's reality program, The Money and the Power, in order to make room for shows consistent with its rebranding efforts, which have gotten a lot more high-minded since November 4:

Our new shows will feature themes of affirmation and accomplishment,??????? says Brian Graden, president of entertainment at MTV Networks music channels and president of Logo. ???????Our shows are going to focus less on loud and silly hooks and more on young people proving themselves. These are themes that are consistent with the Obama generation.???????

Thanks, MTV, for finally realizing that black people who don't talk about cash and bitches can be interesting, too.

Good Riddance! Fitty and his goons have been just one of the many foolish "rappers" ruining the image of African Americans in the media. That said, why the fuck does MTV get to define what kind of black people are in the media? once again acceptable images of "blackness" are defined people other than blacks. awesome.

Still, I'm glad MTV is redefining themselves and going with new "themes." I guess riding the Obama wave is cool, so long as everyone (including the viewers) benefits.

I don't think it was necessary for MTV to scrap 50 Cents' show. After watching a few episodes, there is actually little flaunting of that nature in his shows rather its' about finding the appropriate person to invest in.
True that he did have a few episodes where his contestants were looking silly but there were episodes where he focussed on real issues like the HIV episode.
I think MTV are looking at the history that precedes him as a determining factor in discarding his show.
