So, the New York Post has a new Sunday Books editor, eh? The job, which was once held by Jared Paul Stern (y'know, before that little Ron Burkle incident got him and all his fellow freelancers fired) has been filled by one William Georgiades. And now that the more pressing issue of finding gossips to fill in at Page Six has been accomplished, the Post can refocus its attention to the more trivial topics in the paper. Like books.
The fresh breeze from Mediabistro's ever meticulous Revolving Door brings us wind of his replacement.
The Post's latest bookish editor:
William Georgiades has been named book reviews editor at New York Post. He had been managing editor at Grapevine since 7/15/2004.
To which we respond, WTF is Grapevine? Some kind of wine publication we hope (we hear it takes a lot of booze to get through a day over at that pub). Jared Paul Stern's response to his final phase-out, after the jump.
I transformed the Books section from dull, lifeless pablum to a widely-respected must-read. I brought in contributors like Augusten Burroughs, Simon Doonan, Michael Gross, Whit Stillman, Steve Garbarino, Tony Millionaire, and Choire Sicha. The Post even started being quoted on book jackets, which had never happened before. They acted a little rashly to say the least in giving my job away, and I'm not done with them yet. But I'm sure William, who was one of my top writers, will do a great job and carry on in fine style.
Now all we have to do is sit back and wait for Ian Spiegelman's crazy email to Col Allan in regards to this subject.
