Do you watch ABC's Ugly Betty? Neither do we! But that doesn't mean we're not more than happy to acknowledge its multifaceted contribution to society.
First and foremost, it's inspired strong, intelligent women with great personalities and below-average looks to follow their dreams of working in completely superficial environments where they'll constantly be judged based on their physical attributes.
Second, it's proved an invaluable comeback vehicle for previously forgotten-about actress/singer Vanessa Williams!
And third, it's evidently helped to generate a significant rise in employment opportunities for Hispanics at all the major networks.
What that means: Forget what you may have heard about "equal opportunity hiring." That's just something most meaningless legal mumbo jumbo most employers throw in to appease the suits working upstairs. If you're Hispanic and unattractive, NOW IS THE TIME! Consider it your once in a lifetime chance to ride the wave, capitalize on your suddenly-covetous genetic makeup and break into the entertainment industry once and for all.
Stand tall, socially awkward Asian people! One day, your time will come, and that time will, presumably, be precipitated by a hit television show with equally precipitous ethnic profiling.
Meanwhile, apologies to all you nerdy, suspender-clad black people out there. Sadly, your ship has already sailed.
This was neither clever nor funny. Good try, though!
Let me guess…the writer is white? Bingo! No surprise there, as this drivel highlights the sad state of television and entertainment in general that is literally plastered with white people all while assuming that it's okay.
I'm all for satire and humor, but please ensure that what you write is funny!
