ABC's Subliminal Advertising Calls You Back to Anderson Cooper's Old Show

That wasn't your television breaking down during last night's Lost. Just ABC's marketing department trying to get your attention.

Oh, you didn't catch it? At the end of at least three commercial breaks, just after the quick promos for other ABC shows aired and just before the screen flipped back to Lost, a millisecond blast for The Mole showed up.

You may have seen that The Mole's thumb print or logo appear. An ABC spokesperson confirms to us those "flash teases" – they don't want to call it subliminal advertising – were not a figment of your imagination, and that they will show up again as the network moves forward with plans to relaunch the show.

Perhaps you'll also find yourself suddenly hungry for some Orville Redenbacher and a Coke.

I thought this kind of advertising was made illegal a long time ago.

So glad to know I wasn't imagining these. I was fast forwarding through the commercials as always and I swore I saw it at one point. Even told my wife that perhaps they were bringing the show back.

From what I've studdied about persuasion and advertising there is no evidence that flashing logos has any "subliminal" effects. It is no more or less effective than just showing an image for a few seconds so that the mind consciencely registers it…in face many suggest without actually recognizing the image it will have no effect on you.

Cool! I knew "The Mole" was suppose to come back thanks to the writer's strike but then I thought they may nix it due to the writer's strike being over. Anderson will NOT host it. Please no Ahmad Rashaad. He hosted "Celebrity Mole" and he was BAD. "The Mole" is the best reality show ever!

Grant Bowler, who ironically guest starred on Lost at the same time the teasers were aired, was the host of the Australian version of the Mole. From what I've seen, he was excellent, and very popular. Perhaps that's just what the U.S. version needs. Someone to bring back a bit of the Anderson Cooper style with Aussie flavor.
