PETA is riding high on the crest of a potential backlash. No one wants to see animals abused, but at this point the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals is your freshman year college roommate who's a vegetarian and a PoliSci major: She just found out about this new thing called tofu, and really really really encourages you to try it. That way you won't have to eat hamburgers all the time, which is just ground up cow intestines and not doing a thing for your figure, anyway. Ugh, PETA is a bitch.

So what are you supposed to feel bad about this week? Anjelica Huston, the Wes Anderson muse and Morticia Addams incarnate, has joined up with PETA to bring you some sad facts that will make you feel guilty for ever enjoying Ross' relationship with Marcel on Friends.

Luckily, you probably can't remember the last time you saw a chimpanzee "in a movie, on TV, or in an ad." Oh, except this one. This ad had a lot of footage of monkeys in it. Who's exploiting whom, Anjelica Huston?

The problem with PETA is that it supports a great cause, but goes about it in a totally ass-backwards manner of trying to strong-arm you into joining them. No other widely respected organization prides themselves on coming in to your home and making you feel bad for the way you live your life, except the Catholic Church. Their ads are frequently sexist and their mission never calls for pro-action as much as it does for pro-guilt-tripping.

Too bad for Gwenyth Paltrow, as she's become the latest target of the cruelty-free mafia for appearing in an ad wearing a fur stole. The official PETA statement on Paltrow?

"There is nothing feminine about inserting an electrode into the anus of a terrified and struggling fox and then electrocuting it. Ms Paltrow is an actress — and seemingly a particularly stupid one at that."

Now does that sound like a call for Gwenyth to stop wearing fur and join the ranks, or just a straight-up diss? PETA, you guys are the mean girls of Hollywood high school.
