AP Adopts Lloyd Grove Policy on Paris Hilton

A moratorium on Paris Hilton? Is that even possible for the press to attempt?

Sure, Lloyd Grove made a decent stab at it, but now he's writing fluff pieces for New York and chronicling gays with a modicum of power for Vanity Fair, so you see where that led him.

But let's not let any of that get in the way of the Associated Press' novel effort.

“Next week,” entertainment editor Jesse Washington wrote in an e-mail memo obtained by The Transom, “the print team is planning an unconventional experiment: We are NOT going to cover Paris Hilton.

“Barring any major, major news, we are not going to put a single word about Paris on the wire,” the memo continued. “If something does come up, big or small, we encourage discussions on whether we should write about it.”

We'll be starting a clock to see how long it takes for the AP to adopt the New York Times' methodology of covering celebrities: covering the coverage of them. What are the over-unders on two weeks?
