Today the New York Times' Styles section actually spends a bit of time covering (wait for it) fashion. It's a miracle. And the fashion piece aren't even really trend pieces, but come to be this anomaly known as "fashion reporting." And one of these reported pieces is on 15-year-old model Chanel Iman.
Modeling, it seems, was her "birth right." She was born to walk runways, wear couture, and flip around at photo shoots in front of fans and stuff. And it's not just because her name is Chanel Iman either. She's gorgeous, and tall, and under 18. And under 110 pounds.
“I was at Stella McCartney’s show,” she said, “and I’m dying to go to the bathroom, and so I went up to this guy and asked: ‘Do you work here? Do you know where the bathroom is?’ I didn’t know it was Paul McCartney! I mean, I know who Paul McCartney is, but I didn’t know what he looked like.”
And it's not like "brain surgeon" was really a viable career option.
A Model From Day 1 [Eric Wilson, New York Times]
THIS GIRL IS TOO SKINNY SHE LOOKS LIKE SHE IS GONNA DIE MY GOD EAT A HAMBURGER GIRL!
Shes way thin, i cant stand all these size zero models! what happened to the average women being a normal size 12!!! she needs to gain weight and set an example to all other stupid models who dont eat!!!
MY NUMBER ONE! I'M HER BIGGEST MALE FAN! HATERZ CAN ALL TASTE HER DUST AS SHE STROLLS DOWN THE RUNWAY! MY GOD SHES GORGEOUS!
Okay first of all there is no or never was and size 12 models do have any idea how big that is and second of all who are you to judge her there is nothing wrong with being skinny its not a disease it fucken pisses me off when people bash on skinny people and think thier like some type of virus or somthing just shut the fuck up and mind your business ass!
I totally agree with you people shouldnt pick on them just because they are skinny there isnt anything wron with being a skinny person. People come in all shapes and sizes and nobody is perfect , I hate it how the media put out this image of how you need to have this certain look or your ugly if you dont, which is so not true. Everyone is unique in thier own way i know this sounds retarted and everything but its true.
Well if models are not skinny, then there is noting special about being a model. Not every one can be as good as Chanel Iman
I think we should just leave them alone thier under enough stress as it is. I saw on city TV two models died of heart attack because of all the working thier always moving around plane to plane they never get time to rest and eat.So i dont think its really thier fault.
DUH they do have time to eat but the agency just wont let them plus it*s their job to be deathly adorably skinny with 18.5 BMI*s. in my opinion they look gorgeous, the bad thing? they die from heart failure bcoz of starvation, oh & they also look hungry & starving if you look real cole. still ther*re lovely
the agency doesnt starve them dumbass they could get sued for that the parents could sue believe me i know they dont eat enough becaue some of them dont want to and they are always running around i was with my model friend for NY fashion week she took me with her and its crazy work.I wasnt there all the time but the two days i was its freakin hell.
I just think that the people ,kids teens or whatever that dont know shit about the business that think they do should just shut up they have no idea how horribly wrong they are anout all of it. People just leave the models alone!
All the people that are talking about supermodels badly need to be Quite because the industry is hell of stressful. These girls are working their ass of to get the job done. Some of the models are natrually skinny and some of them don't like to eat. Chanel is working her butt off and I respect that, and you should to. You can't blame the skinny people on how they look. I'm a girl that is skinny, but not that skinny and I want to be a Supermodel. I know people are going to judge me. But you will love me or hate. You probably wouldn't want me in the business, but you know what your going to have to deal with it. And you will see me for years to come. Remember my name, you'll see me sometime soon.
i think she is georgous and i aslo think that Eric Xilson is extremely obnoxiuos. Just because she didn't recognise Sir Paul Mccartney backstage at a fashion show in probably dim lighting does not permit this Eric Wilson guy to dismiss her inteligence completely. Please remember that she is only 15 and perhaps The Beatles were a bit before her time.Sure, i have senn Sir Paul Mccartney on many occasion but after al i am from Liverpool.
Hannah Healey,13 yrs old, Liverpool
she's stupid. her real name isn't even Chanel Iman!
this is just like when she asked her interviewer at Teen Vogue if they knew who Coco Chanel was. that pisses me off.
i think she's gorgeous, but she pisses me off.
In all actuality her name is Chanel Iman. And indeed she's a very gorgeous girl.
I find it obsurd for ignornant viewers to bash those of a slimer frame because of the simple face that some ppl just cannot help it at allll. I'm 16, 33-23-34, I have pizza and burgers everyday. There's some things you just can't help. It's just the way some ppl are built not everyone is a "NORMAL" size 12, what kind of foolish comment is that any way? Besides that models are supposed to embody a look and certain features that others do not retain. Having an appearance that other's do not possess causes consumers to consume. That is just the way advertising works. And yes some models are dangerously slim however give the rest some grief, they're just trying to make a living and metabolism is not something you can change with the flick of a switch.
shes gorgeous..and thin// i love it..she looks amazingly beautiful
She seems okay, but birth name or not, 'chanel iman' is definitely too comercialized already before she (the model) hit the seen, its unoriginal, and i wouldn't be surprised if it was her setback in the fashion industry.
replying to 'kay kay' & 'ashley',
yes it is true that her name is Chanel Iman, anyone can don those names, but what upsets me the most is that the model 'chanel iman' most likely is ignorant of the hardships and exemplary work that it took designer Gabrielle Chanel and supermodel Iman to make themselves household names.
I think Chanel is fantastic. I've met her at some shows and I know that she's doing what she loves. She follows her heart, and was there helping me before my first show, teaching me how to walk in 4 inch wedges and hugging me when i was trembling with nerves. She's not dumb, she's determined, and I think you could all learn some valuable lessons from Chanel Iman.
Listen all you haters stop hating on my girl Chanel she is to awesome and my inspiration
